I felt it incumbent upon me to write a rather non-traditional and unorthodox review about how I spent my Thanksgiving at the Chart House.
After losing my home and everything I worked my entire life for [thanks to our fearless leaders decisions before, after, and during COVID] as a single-mom (and foster mom, if that) I felt the need to treat myself to a three course meal here. As I am currently surviving doing Door Dash (I am currently suspended from them)as I continue applying for thousands of jobs claiming to be hiring and networking along the way. You may have seen my face from time to time. I now work 12 hours a day and seven days a week. I work daily to put myself in hotels and/or AirBnB's, feed myself, and a partridge in a pear tree. I've been baring this alone for sometime now. Seven months to be exact. (Twenty years if I include raising kids, etc.) I slept at rest stops for three weeks off of interstate 95 and showered at gyms back in April/May. I do not seek pitty or sympathy. This is the preface to help guests and staff understand what this entire experience meant to me.
I was greeted with smiles and sat right next the fire place. Perfect views. So many choices and on a budget, I went with the three course meal deal. Originally, I had already done a pre-planned order by checking the menu online. I was going to have a drink, but decided to go with the cucumber & honey. Very refreshing.
First, I learned that the charred fig salad was not available. So, I went with the lobster bisque instead. Yes, two different worlds here, but out of everywhere I've ever had anything remotely lobster, the bisque was the best I've ever had. It had the absolute perfect amount of lobster and sherry. It was silky and smooth. You could tell it was fresh and was made with lots of love and passion.
Second, I had the turkey dinner with all of the fixings. My server, Eli, did me a huge solid and nixed the cream spinach for me. It was substituted with the asian sesame green beans. An absolute hit to go with fresh mashed potatoes, corn bread stuffing, and nice thick slices of white meat and the perfect amount of pan gravy. The cranberry relish was fresh, tangy, and had that perfect little bite to it. I looked forward to my to-go box for round two later. Again, you could tell it was fresh and was made with lots of love and passion.
Third, I had the house-made pecan pie. Now, I've had pecan pie in a lot of places, but this right here was out of this world! It wasn't bogged down with a ton of sugar. It had a little buttery bourbon taste to it and it was silky smooth. The perfect amount of everything to it. Again, you could tell it was fresh and was made with lots of love and passion.
Finally, I did the Italian thing and ended the night with a little cappuccino.
So, on that note, I must say this: Normally, if I still had my home, I would have made all of this myself and invited a ton of people over. Sure, I have family, but not a one of them extended an invite, except one. Since I've lost everything I no longer exist in their world. Nor was a helping hand held out this entire time. Surprised? I'm not. I already knew this. Which is sad considering I'm doing everything I'm supposed to and not doing anything remotely wrong. While I watch it repetitively being handed to those who are. As a single-mother who never got the opportunity to actually sit down to enjoy a meal to herself this evening meant the world to me. And the funny and sad part is I know a lot of people who deserve this very same experience and treat, but don't think they are worthy of it.
Shout out to the staff and everyone responsible for making all of this happen. Sure, it's your job. However, not one place I've ever gone to has knocked it out of the park like tonight. I went from heartbroken to comfortably...complacent is the word that comes to mind. Bittersweet too. I do not fear venturing out alone. Been doing it for quite a long time.
Plus, zero indigestion and a place I look forward to coming back to again and again.
For that, I THANK YOU ALL!
Happy...
Read moreWow. Let’s see, where do I start. Aside from being a Landry’s select card holder, I really thought that my first experience after joining would be extremely helpful. Well, choosing Mothers Day as my first time was a BIG mistake. I don’t want to create such a long reply so I’ll just list the fails in order: My waiter lost my Landrys card. I was called by the hostess staff up front saying I left it, but we had just placed our order. I’m assuming the waiter left it lying around somewhere. It took 30 min just to get our first drinks, water and alcohol. My sister and I decided to try the Peach Bellini special. Unfortunately, the waiter spilled my drink all over my back and on my chair while delivering it. (I guess the apology for that was not charging me and my sister for the drink. That’s it!) We waited another hour for our meals. All my husband and I ordered was a bowl of soup! (I also ordered a side of eggs, but that came 15 min after I finished my soup. We had a party of 7, and we were there a total of 3 1/2 hours. And still left so hungry. 2 hours for soup? Really! My husband realized we were there for brunch but the lunch menu had started, so he ordered some coconut shrimp, they were so over cooked. He ate it anyway because he was just so hungry. We advised the waiter, and he told us if he didn’t it most of it, he could’ve comped that. But my husband shared it with the table to ask if they felt it was over cooked as well, and we all agreed. So, I guess that was our mistake?
I noticed a well dressed man in a blue suit speak to our waiter shortly after my waiter spilled my drink on me. I assumed he was going to talk to us and was a manager of some sort. But nope, he didn’t. We made eye contact and he just hurriedly walked away after making eye contact with me. I had my 14 yr old son and 5 yr old daughter there with me. So obviously, you know I’m a mother. So on Mothers Day, not only did did I feel embarrassed at a restaurant I was attending to the first time, my husband and I paid $388 for our meals, and still left so hungry and no one in higher management even noticed or cared about it. Our waiter I can tell felt bad, but he comped the drinks. Which technically was just my sisters. I would assume I wouldn’t have to pay for the drink he spilled on me. I’m just appalled. I would love to try this place again, and hope that maybe we just went on an off day. I try to give grace in some aspects. But I’d definitely have to convince my husband first to make the drive out there again. We live about 40 min away, and family we had join us, lives an hour and...
Read moreThis was one of the nicest restaurants I’ve been to in my life, and I’ve been to a lot of restaurants. As soon as we got there, I was very impressed by all the wine on display. We were seated in a large semi circle booth that seemed like an interesting choice considering I was only with one person. It was comfortable and had a decent view of the water though. The windows make it very easy to see the water. I got the cherry palmer which was basically a cherry ice tea lemonade, and it was pretty good. My girlfriend also liked her drink.
We started with the crab dip, belly and the beast (octopus and pork belly), and cream of crab. The belly and the beast was presented very nicely. The octopus was an amazing tender, and I usually don’t like octopus. The pork belly was delicious and very crispy. The cream of crab was super thick and had a lot of actual crab meat. The crab dip was one of the best crab dips I’ve ever had. The flavor of it was amazing and there was so much crab meat. A large part of what made it so good was the bread. It was the perfect texture and there was butter inside of each little slice. We ended up also getting the bread service which was pretty good. The 3 accompaniments were regular butter, pesto sauce, and a honey old bay butter. The honey old bay butter was especially great.
For my entree I got the New York strip, which I think was listed as 16 oz. I chose to get the bone Marrow butter on it. The way they serve it is super cool. The guy literally torches the bone marrow on to the steak right in front of you. The steak was cooked a perfect medium rare, as I ordered. It was very high quality meat. One of the better steaks I’ve had. The bone marrow butter made it noticeably more rich and fatty. My girlfriend got the seafood pasta, which was a massive portion as well with a great amount of sea food. The bread with it was very good, especially with the white wine sauce in the pasta. She really liked it.
We also shared a side of the lobster risotto which was pretty good. I also got the faux-jito mocktail which was basically a non alcoholic mojito with some fruits. Very good and refreshing though. For dessert we got the crème brûlée tasting. The flavors were vanilla, strawberry rose, and orange. They were all so good and super thick and rich.
The service was super friendly, while also being professional. Our server gio was great. Definitely recommend this place if you’re anywhere...
