I rarely stay at hotels these days. I travel alone frequently, so I typically find other accommodation rental options that are more affordable. But, for our visit to Annapolis, I really wanted to take advantage of this historic inn and it's walkability to shops/restaurants in the historic area. We stayed in the Governor Calvert Historic King. This is located in the main building where you check in. I believe this is a little bit of a bigger room and it was great. Had a view of the state house. Pros: - Walkability to restaurants and stores - Historic atmosphere / unique experience - Has a mini fridge in room - Good water pressure and shower head (at least in our room) - Great TV station options (we were sort of stuck inside a portion of our day due to a tropical storm, so we watched TV more than we would have otherwise. Somewhere in the middle or just plain facts: - Valet is available 7 AM until (gosh, I already forgot) 11 PM? This means that if you need to leave the hotel at 6 AM and you checked your car with valet, you're out of luck! So plan accordingly. We had a rental car and I absolutely checked the car with valet. The parking around town (tight parallel spots on tiny streets) freaks me out... especially because it was raining while we were there. - Like someone else mentioned, this hotel technically "closes" in the wee-hours of the morning. There's a card reader at the door to let you in "after hours". - Check in is 4 pm ( a little on the later side ) Cons: - If you want to be nit-picky, you could complain about some of the wallpaper patchwork in our bathroom or the wallpaper application in general. It was noticeable but didn't really matter. - There's a mini fridge but no microwave. Great for drinks, but not for if you want to heat up leftovers. - Their system was down the entire time of our stay... this didn't impact us. They had a way of knowing the reservations they had. But this DID mean if, say, we wanted to extend our stay a night, they would not have been able to do this for us on site. We would have to call the booking number to do so. This number is offsite somewhere in the Carolinas (yes, I asked them where they were :P) and is the hub for the management/property owners I guess. - I think it's on the pricey side (compared to what I typically spend on overnight stays) but it was worth it for our experience. 10/10 would stay at again. I absolutely recommend booking this place a minimum of 2 nights. This way you actually enjoy a day in the town.

I’d like to state here and now…that this is the most wonderful hotel my wife and I have ever stayed in on the East Coast. I want to give a special nod to Lawrence and Kevin from the front desk. When we arrived, we were completely exhausted from the Thanksgiving holiday traffic and our nerves could not have been more shot. Lawrence knew exactly what to do even before we arrived. He got on the phone and guided us to the Governor Calvert House to check in and promised that he would do everything he could “to make the rest of our trip seamless.” Kevin took the time to notice our online reservation (from Priceline) had been fouled up and upgraded our room to one even better than we had originally reserved. He even provided some complimentary drink coupons for us to calm our nerves! “You two have nothing to worry about for the rest of your stay here” Lawrence said and he could not have been more right. From the car valet to Lawrence personally bringing us champagne glasses, from 2 blocks away no less, this was service at its best. Is there an employee recognition program? There should be, starting with Lawrence and Kevin. The whole staff was truly professional. It is so rare to find this level of service and grace in a staff. They outshine any “luxury hotel” in Washington, New York or elsewhere. Give them a raise! As for the Maryland Inn itself? It is beauty, elegance, history and most of all charm and character. The Treaty of Paris Restaurant provided us a sumptuous Thanksgiving feast at a price that Grandma would find hard to beat.”Peanut” makes a mean martini in the Drummer’s Lot bar. Stop by to relax and unwind. This was one of the best getaways we have taken in years. We will not stay anywhere else when we go to Annapolis next. We might go back for a visit just to stay at the Maryland Inn. Thanks everyone!

My girlfriend and I went to stay on 13th on February they're checking time was 4 o'clock but we were there at 3o'clock the front office manager said room was not ready which we understood and we went to see around and we Came back at 4.15 pm to the hotel and she asked me to wait another 10 minutes then she gave the room key it was in another building we took the room key and we went to the room it was dirty and it was a check out room from the previous guest when I came back to the hotel the receptionist was apologizing she was like give us 30 minutes will clean room. It was very icy they never salted even the walkways which I was very surprised they never Told us the room is ready after 30 minutes I went to the room it's surprising and shocking they never change the sheets hair on the Bedsheets and plastic on the sheets was extremely surprising especially with the pandemic how they can treat like this they don't even follow the Covid Guidelines came back to the front desk ask for the manager they don't even have a manager on duty not the general manager not the front office manager was at present it was very shocking such a busy day there's no responsible managers at the premises we told that we are not going to stay there and we were looking for another hotel and we went to spend our Valentine's Day in a different hotel. Please don't stay there they don't follow any Covid guidelines and it's very shocking and they don't clean sheets they just use the same sheet that from the previous guest

BRIDES AND ANY ONE SEEKING EXCELLENT SERVICE AND COMMUNICATION BEWARE OF THE CALVERT HOUSE! Let me start by saying that the actual location and venue are beautiful. But that is as positive as I can be in this review. I booked this venue in January of 2017. Between January 2017 and May of 2018, I had to work with, meet with, and juggle THREE different coordinators as each would just randomly quit. The even bigger issue is the Calvert House’s lack of communication-- how did I find out each coordinator left? I was met with radio silence for WEEKS at a time until I finally was able to reach someone who would nonchalantly inform me that that coordinator had left “a few weeks ago” like it was no big deal.

Communication was an absolute NIGHTMARE! Not only could I never get in touch with anyone to answer basic and time sensitive questions, but one coordinator would tell me one thing and the next representative would tell me something completely different. It took over seven days to get in contact with the Calvert House the TWO WEEKS before my wedding-- when I did hear back, yet again, there were contradictions and major issues. Just three days before the wedding, I had to hire and pay for a “day of planner” from an outside company because I was so terrified by the lack of communication and lack of promised services. Our bills were overcharged and did not match the contract at all. We had to sit down, just TWO DAYS before the wedding, and go over the bill item by item to correct several mistakes in order to reflect the agreed upon pricing in the contract, something that should’ve been worked out weeks or even months before that date. Very unprofessional for the amount of money being spent at this location.

On the night of the wedding, no food was provided to my husband, myself, or our wedding party (all of which are the guests of honor) in the bridal suite as we waited to be introduced to our guests. We were very hungry at that point after getting ready, having the wedding ceremony, and taking photos in the sun. We were told we’d have our own “happy hour” of appetizers and drinks made available, yet none of that was provided. During the reception after we had done the official cake cutting, we told our guests to grab a piece. However, the Calvert House staff “forgot” to cut my $400 cake. Not a single one of our guests got a piece! They did not provide plates or utensils to do so either. Furthermore, that night when the staff packed up, they left the entire cake (with just the tiny sliver taken out) overnight, unboxed, and unrefrigerated, despite the baker’s explicit instructions. By the time we got to it early next morning, it was completely ruined and collapsed.

When we contacted them to go over how these SEVERAL issues could be made right, the management was dismissive and tried to blame our last wedding coordinator for every issue. The issue at the Calvert House begins with its management-- the staff is unaware and uninformed, causing major and repeated issues. They did acknowledge that they had messed up over the course of the year and a half. However, their offer of “reimbursement” was well below the expectation we had-- it did not even cover the additional costs we encountered the week of the wedding due to the Calvert House’s repeated wrongdoings. We paid A LOT of money to have our wedding here, and that was not reflected in the service provided to us.

I would NOT recommend the Calvert House to any of my friends getting married!!! The stress you will experience truly takes away from your big day. If you plan on booking here, please BE AWARE that the items listed in the pamphlet provided (what your deposit gets you) is only about half true. Most of these services are greatly exaggerated, and make you think this is a “one stop spot” that provides everything and every service needed....

When arriving at the hotel, I attempted to valet my vehicle. Since I was staying at the Maryland Inn. I was told by the attendant to drive my car and he would meet me there. I asked for directions which he was unable to provide so I said I would just use my phone. I parked in the loading zone which is apparently in the back of the hotel (next to a large hotel sign, my first visit so I had no knowledge of the hotel), but decided to wait in the lobby since it didn't appear anyone was around. I waited for at least 15 minutes in the front lobby of the hotel. I called back to the front desk, where they said the attendant "Charlie" had been waiting for 20 minutes, apparently outside somewhere on the street, where there is obviously no place to park a car. They told me to wait again, I waited another 30 minutes in the lobby looking for any sign of an attendant and no one showed up. I again call the front desk where a clerk named "MK" told me it's not their policy for me to drive to the hotel spot and I would have to drive back to the main building where they would drive me back to the building I'm staying. I asked to speak to a manager and they put me on hold for 10 minutes where the other clerk "Lawrence" picked up. He again told me how it's not their policy even though I told him that is what I was told to do. He again put the full blame on me and never once apologized for the terrible service. After hearing every excuse he could possibly give and how I should have seen this person waiting on the street. He said he would give me the number to call for the manager of the valet. I asked for the manager on site and again was put on hold for another 5 minutes. At this point I was fed up with the horrible service and obvious no respect for the customer. I decided to park my car myself. Which was probably for the best since it was closer and cheaper than the "valet" service. I don't believe your company understands what it means to valet a vehicle. Fortunately this was the last we had to deal with any service from the Historic Inns staff, since they have no one onsite of the Maryland Inn house.

On our second day we were not in our room from 9 am until 330 pm. We never received house cleaning until 4 pm, where we asked for them to come back in 30 minutes, but apparently she was done at 430. This does not seem very accommodating, however that was not a big deal since we only needed a couple towels.

On our last day, a man decided it was okay to just walk into our room at 9 am without even knocking. Luckily we had the door latch on which prevented him from entering completely, but could still see into the room. It was very odd and creepy. He never said why he wanted into the room. I would probably not return to this hotel since Annapolis has plenty to choose from. It's too bad since the location was great, but the customer service and staff just...

Came out for a one night get away with husband on a fri-sat.

Location was great. We stayed at the Robert Johnson (2nd floor, in a corner, back side of the building). Even though the street was on the front side it was a quiet street so there wouldn't have been a lot of noise issues, it may have even been better to be on the front side of the building to have a view of the State House which is right across the street. Literally "steps" away from downtown... walk around the building and you're in "downtown Annapolis". Easy access. Free parking garage & everything is close - We parked at Calvert Street Garage (free parking all weekend ~4 blocks away), walked past Robert Johnson to check in at the Governor Calvert House, then walked back to the Robert Johnson building to leave our things

Service was great - if you met anyone... Robert Johnson didn't have any ppl inside to help us, but we didn't need help, so that didn't matter to us. Check-in was the only time we met any workers. Everyone was sweet and friendly. Make sure to walk all the way into the Calvert building to see their glass floor! and historic information. for the price we paid... we would have hoped for a coffee bar, or something extra in the lobby area of the Robert Johnson, but we understand the location (downtown & close to waters, historic building) was why the price was high...

Room was good. sweet, historic, clean room. Charming bathroom. Nothing super special mini fridge, small coffee pot and bottled water available for the price we paid... we had hoped for something more WOW but it wasn't anything super grand. Just a very nice room. comfortable pillows and bed. a bit hot under their blankets but that's an easy fix if you don't use the blanket! got the room w the air purifier .. a bit drying (but if you've ever used an air purifier you should know this) but there were no strong fragrances that I could smell. I don't like super smells - i'd rather no smells... and it close. I could only smell their laundry detergent. Again... I'd prefer not, but it wasn't so bad that it gave me a headache. Our room had windows but we were looking at the back of another building, so not much to look at, but enough sunlight that we didn't feel like we were in a cave. Noise was not too bad, could hear some doors closing but otherwise we didn't notice any loud noises.

Overall, we might go back, but think we want to try one of the other buildings like the Maryland where there's the pub and the gym and a seating area outside...
