Scared at firstwhen we entered, only three tables and it was lunchtime. Hostess and waitress all in one was very pleasant middle eastern woman. Only trouble was her grasp of English is somewhat limited. It was felt in a nearby diner's order being wrong. But we are determined to find a new go to oriental cuisine restaurant since our favourite was bought out by the city in the name of progress. It's like having to find a new home. There were only two of us dining but we ordered three of our favourite dishes to test the kitchen. The chow mein was ordered Saigon style. You have a choice that or Minnesota style. Sweet and sour pork and pepper steak. Basic dishes but will tell if we'll be back to try more. The dishes were freshly prepared not layng in back somewhere in a steam table. Verdicts on taste: excellent, chow mein was delicious, napa cabbage, zucchini, mushrooms, onions, carrots and chicken. Only complaint I could have used a knife. Veggies were cooked but still crisp not too much sauce. I needed a little soy sauce but I like a bit saltier food. Pork and beef dishes were similarly delicious. Both of these had marvelously tender meat. Great indication they don't overcook your meaty to shoe leather. Lunch specials came with fried rice. This was good but didn't have anything in it. Don't expect house special fried rice here unless ordered separate. I'm not surprised but do love a few veggies in here myself. Very generous portion though. For your lunch combo you have a choice of their egg roll or two wontons. Both excellent. The egg is practically a meal in itself! The wontons have some onion and/or garlic in there making them a cut above others. All in all we'll be back to try more. I only took off one star because service was a bit slow and she needed to come back and ask what type of chow mein I wanted. Could be she is new. She wad so pleasant though it was hard to fault her. This could be our new home for take out night! I wad going to add photos but sorry my phone died. They were...
Read moreOne word. Generic. Nothing personal putting on this review since it's my first time being here. I wasn't expecting much with this restaurant. Keep in mind this was a very slow 2pm Sunday Afternoon. Service was quick with the food I had which was the House special fried rice ($10) and House Pho ($13) which was about 10mins total. The fried rice was good but it tasted just like any other asian restaurants that I've gone to hence the term generic, nothing special or unique that this place has to offer to me really. The House Pho on the other hand was just too oversalty to me personally, I've had more or less bland Special Pho many times but I've never had an oversalty-ness flavor until this one. It came to the point where I was sipping my water and my server asked me if I wanted a 2nd glass which I didn't even realize I almost drink all of the first glass. Normally I would add some fish sauce to my pho with it's high content of sodium for that kick but in this case, I didn't have to ask for fish sauce. The side garnishes that's usually served with pho (bean, sprouts, thai basil, lime, etc.) was a little sad to be honest. The basil itself was very withered and almost dead, being my first time and trying to be polite I didn't complain because it still had a scent of the aroma and fragrance you'd get from the thai basil upon the bite. Overall: The server was quite mindful. The restaurant felt very quiet and casual with a low volume TV to keep customers occupied while waiting for their food. The food itself isn't too bad for my experience but not unique nor the best either since I'm well aware now that there's a branching restaurant from this company. $13 for House Pho with shrimp though? Reduce the saltiness of the broth then I'd say it's...
