Old Chicago Red Hots — Restaurant in Antioch

As a long-time local resident, three evenings ago, I stopped by [for the first-time] to grab a quick bite. And instantly upon reaching the ordering counter, I noticed that the employees didn't adhere to many of the most basic food safety guidelines. One being @ mininum the wearing of food prep gloves. Therefore ensuring that the product [food] is fit/safe to eat. One guy bare-handedly worked the cash register & credit machine transactions then answered the phone; all while continually adjusting his face mask. And, he subsequently went on to dicing bulked tomatoes along with the other guys directly from a box that was [seated on the counter space where food items were being handled]. Visualize, a box with an exterior that appears dusty/dirty, ummm that's a No! As well as to a UNSAFE & UNSANITARY practice! Seriously, I didn't 👀 either of three gentlemen standing behind the counter attempt to wash their hands in the sink that's mounted directly opposite of the prep station. Yet they were moving from task to task preparing orders; while touch their face & hair! Now that is down-right disgusting! I could go-on a little farther as there are plenty more negatives that could be shared. However, I've chosen to end it right here by saying...after witnessing all that I could take before retching and 🤢🤮. I decided to walk-out! Christsake, we're in the midst of a Covid-19 pandemic and food-borne illnesses do exist!! Listen the obvious speaks for itself. I won't be back...no es...

I don't know what happened to this place! To start, it's dirty - floors and baseboards are filthy, there's a broken globe leaning up against the wall, knick knacks in front are dusty and broken, bathroom was grungy. There are no menu boards, although there are paper menus laying on the counter. Two of the fountain sodas were "out", we informed the woman at the counter who made no attempt to fix it. The same woman took our order and was unbelievably rude, when my husband asked for a receipt she shouted "huh, what??", and then proceeded to tell him that if he was questioning the price, she could show him (he wasn't - we just wanted to know what we irdered that came up to $29). I gave this place 2 stars because the jumbo hot dogs and fries we ordered were good, the fries were hot and tasty. However, the condition of the place and the extremely rude person at the counter will ensure that we never go...

I don't know how I've never seen this place until last week. I tried the Italian beef and the cheesesteak, both were delicious. The cheesesteak was really juicy, which is usually not the case because most places buy cheap meat. The roll they use is also really good, much better than the ones across the street at Jewel. The Italian beef was definitely one of the best ones I've had. Again, not a cheap roll from Jewel. I always love when places have handcut or battered fries instead of a plain french fry, and their battered fries are definitely better than a plain french dry. Between my 3 visits in the last 2 weeks, I can tell the owner does not cheap out on quality, and they truly care about what they are serving. Definitely recommend trying...
