So ...where do I begin......I've been ordering from reggae riddim for years.
in store (before they had the lounge, when it was a couple steps to the front counter) and after the renovations.
I went today and ordered a large oxtail and was told I had to wait for sweet plantains which is understandable.
What's not understandable is the fact that the cashier charged me for a side order of sweet plantains when the orders are suppose to come with it.
I guess they just assumed I'm not a regular cause I'm Latino.
So I let her charge me for the order of plantains.but when time came for that tip I left it at a 0.00.
I was told 5 mins for the wait and decided to eat my food there.
Mind you ,I was sitting at a table in front of the cashiers counter and no one else was in this restaurant eating other then me.
after about 20 mins or so I knew that someone was feeling a bit vindictive based on that tip so when I went to ask for those sweet plantains no one was at the register until luckily In my case 2 customers came through the door while I was waiting at the front counter.
The look of surprise on her face as she walked through that cowboy barn door was enough to validate my suspicion.
those plantain's were literally just sitting there steaming behind the glass.
The cashier at this point pretended as if she didn't remember why I was at the counter to disregard the issue and avoid taking accountability for anything,so I politely reminded her of what I was missing .
Bruh, Never again will I evvvvvvvverrrr buy food from here based off of this experience.
This chicks sense of entitlement to receive gratuity for doing less then the bare minimum is enough for me not to go back let alone charging for what's included. (which I double checked).
This cashier is a menace to society these older reviews are mentioning her from like 6 YEARS AGOOOOO!!!!...
Read moreI’ve been a regular customer at Reggae Riddim Jamaican Restaurant and Lounge for some time now, and that alone should say a lot. I’ve ordered food from here on several occasions, and the consistency in both flavor and quality keeps me coming back.
Let’s start with the oxtail—it’s without question one of the highlights. It’s cooked to perfection: tender, well-seasoned, and the gravy has that rich, slow-cooked depth you expect from authentic Jamaican cuisine. The jasmine rice it’s often paired with is a pleasant surprise—fluffy, fragrant, and perfectly prepared every time.
The brown stew chicken is another dish I highly recommend. The seasoning is on point, the sauce is bold but balanced, and the chicken falls off the bone. You can tell it’s been marinated well and stewed properly.
Their fried chicken also deserves praise—crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and full of flavor. It’s comforting, no-frills, but executed well. The steamed vegetables are simple but well done—still vibrant, not overcooked, and they add a nice balance to the heavier entrees.
Now for the downsides: the rice and peas could definitely use some improvement. It tends to fall flat in comparison to the rest of the meal—under-seasoned and lacking that signature coconut or thyme flavor. Also, the portion sizes labeled as “large” don’t quite feel like a true large—more like a generous medium. That’s not to say you won’t be satisfied, but it’s something to keep in mind.
Despite those minor critiques, I genuinely enjoy eating here. The food is flavorful, the menu offers solid variety, and there’s a clear effort to provide authentic Jamaican meals that remind you of home—or take you there for the first time.
If you’re in or around Apopka and craving island flavor, Reggae Riddim is definitely worth a visit. With a few small adjustments, this could easily be a...
Read moreThe food is good the majority of the time, but when it’s bad it’s very bad, and they charge the same price. Service is always extremely slow, as if they’re cooking each dish upon order, but they don’t. I recently moved to the area, and have frequented this restaurant very often. Most of the time my bill wasn’t under $50, so you would think that they would recognize that I’m a good customer, and make sure my food is right. Every time I ordered food to go it was half assed, and wrong. The first time I ordered chicken soup, and it looked like the 2 slithers of chicken accidentally fell in, and the cashier made excuses, and told me he’ll make sure it’s right next time. Well next time I ordered chicken soup I asked them to make sure to add chicken...well they did, but no dumplings that were ordered. Again the cashier made excuses, and told me to drive out $5 worth of gas to get 2 dumplings in my soup. A month later today, I decided to give them another chance, and ordered escovich fish. Got home, opened the container, and there was literally 4 small pieces of onions (when I ordered extra onions), and AGAIN the cashier made excuses, and told me to come back for some onions if I want. If I want??!!! Well damn did escovich fish change to just dry fried fish??!! Isn’t it supposed to have onions??!! (not 3 pieces that might have accidentally gotten there). I tried my best to give them my business, but they’re just not capable of being competent, and honest in their business. Such a shame. And expecting people to wait for a half hour for their food, and then have to drive back all the time to have it corrected is just crazy....
