This place had been winning awards for years now, and I wanted to go so bad, but I just never am out in this part of town. Well I found a couple of other activities to pair with a nice lunch in Apopka. So we stopped in and finally got to see what all the fuss was all about.
Ambiance was themed very well. New England nautical. Old school, like you were sitting in a restaurants from the 80's. Very fun, warm, and inviting. And also all of the blank spaces off the sidewalk were full of oyster shells, which was a very nice touch.
Service was top notch. Our server was top notch professional, made sure our glasses were always full, and new the menu very well to help us decide exactly what to get.
The food itself was really nice. Everything we had was delicious. Let's get into it. We ate way too much food this day. We started off with a couple of apps.
New England Clam Chowdah (Chef Mike’s secret clam chowder recipe [Add (3) Famous Rhode Island Clam Cakes]). This was a very nice chowder, not too creamy, very well seasoned, and you have to add on the clam cakes as a dipper. This chowder yearns to be dipped into. Very pervasive clam flavor throughout the cake. A nice little fritter.
Crab Stuffed Mushrooms (Crab stuffed mushrooms, served with Hollandaise sauce drizzle and lemon wedge). Unctuous. Very nice sized shrooms stuffed to the brim with the crab mixture and broiled to a perfect crisp. Wowwy wow. So good.
Onto the main event, the Connecticut Lobstah Roll (Warm fresh Maine lobster piled on Crisp Bibb Lettuce on toasted New England brioche Roll, served with warm butter).
Perfectly tender lobster, and really more of it than I thought I would get. A roll that was strong, soft, and ultra buttery, all with even more butter for dipping. The epitome of indulgence, served with some of the finest, crispiest homemade potato chips you'll find in all of Orlando. So good.
Fisherman's Platter (Fried Boneless Catfish, Clam Strips, Shrimp, New Bedford Sea Scallops). I know frying seafood isn't how you can most skillfully cook it, but there is absolutely a wrong, lazy way to do it. Nauti did it correctly.
Catfish, delicate breading, super moist and juicy within, well seasoned. Nice. Clam strips, made extra fun with extra crackling breading a la old Captain D's cracklings. Shrimp of a decent size, not oily, popped right out of the tails. And the scallops were cooked just as well as if they were seared by Gordon Ramsay. So delicate and delicious.
A few notes on the sides. The Hush Puppies were absolutely terrible. They were simply overcooked. A few of the chips suffered the same fate. But the Sweet Potato Casserole was one of the best I've ever had. They used puffed rice cereal for texture and wow, it was very fun and yummy.
Overall, the hype was real, and this place was worth the wait. It's so rare to find good seafood in the Orlando area, but this is one of the few places I was happy to find. I'd love to come...
Read moreA friend and I went to Nauti Lobstah for Magical Dining (MD) and the value was great for the amount of food. Initially we were told a 45-50 minute wait but after checking back 20 minutes later, found they already had a table waiting for us. (We were sitting in a car to avoid the heat). We both ordered a drink (Malibu Sunset and Rum Runner), and liked them. They did take a bit longer to come to the table because it's a small bar and the place was busy. Our server Jonathon was fantastic, extremely friendly and attentive. He got a double thumbs up from us both. Our plates were cleared very fast after each course.
I ordered the crab stuffed mushrooms and my friend got the Lobster bisque. She liked her bisque although I was much happier with my mushrooms, which were the best I've tried. Her bowl was very large, but I did overhear another patron saying they didn't care for the bisque, which does have sherry. I tried the hush puppies which were good, but I don't know if they are worth using up one of your sides for unless you just love hp's. They are the sweeter, smoother versions compared to the more grainy & peppered versions you sometimes get at places. We both ordered the filet for our main, which were both cooked perfectly and seasoned well. One caveat is the sauces can get salty, so if you are low sodium, I don't know if this is the best choice. We both really enjoyed it though and thought the sauces were delicious. The steak was tender, although not fork tender. I upgraded 1 side to the cup of chowdah for +$5. Well worth the upcharge, it was seasoned so well and was scrumptious, best I've tried anywhere in recent memory. We both had Caesar salads which were typical and nothing worth going into. My sweet potato casserole side was good. Not super sweet but spiced well. It had a rice krispy type topping on it which I think cuts down on the sugar vs a marshmallow based topping. My friend had the cheese grits and mashed potatoes and said both were good, although she was so full at that point she boxed them up for home after a few bites, along with most of my casserole. For dessert, I did the MD mango mousse and she chose the deconstructed Key lime option. Her key lime was reportedly very tart, although she ate all of it despite being full and didn't add the graham crackers to it to tone it down. My mango mousse was also a bit tart but fruity, a refreshing option to cap the night with after so much food. It had a lot more mango chunks in it than expected, which was welcomed. The biscoff cookies also paired well with it. Although after seeing the bread pudding, it would be tempting for next time, if I had room in my stomach for such a heavy option at the end.
I am definitely going to come back at some point before MD ends, because my husband would love this place. This was probably in the top 15 meals I've ever had. My friend is from New Hampshire and was very happy...
Read moreThe Nauti Lobstah (awesome name) has been on my "Must Try" list for sone time. Luckily, I had the opportunity to visit last night for a special dinner with my lady. We had such a great experience that we both decided this is our new favorite seafood spot!
This restaurant is tucked away in a very unassuming location in Apopka. It's right off a main street but you'd pass right by it if you weren't paying close attention. It's exterior is plain but these are things that I like about it. It's on the low low, kinda like the IYKYK flow. But once you enter, it's like you get transported to another dimension of seafood paradise. It's has a very welcoming and friendly vibe. The restaurant is very clean and simple with nice indoor seating as well as cute and romantic outdoor seating. The service is top notch with the staff working together and all very attentive. The food was also amazing. From beginning to end, we had a pleasant experience.
My lady started off by ordering a drink (Sunrise?!) that was too sweet and didn't seem to have enough alcohol, but thankfully our waitress gladly replaced it with the better and stronger, Margarita. We jumped right into ordering our entrees. My lady ordered the Twin Lobstah tails which was baked and had seasoned ritz crackers crumbled on top, a nice addition. Her meal came with 2 sides, so she opted for the house salad with balsamic vinaigrette and the mash potatoes. She could not stop gushing about the Lobstah's and she also enjoyed her sides. The mash were dark in color which threw me off but still tasted ok. I opted for the Fisherman's platter which can be fried or boiled (I went fried). This meal also comes with 2 sides, so I opted for the sweet potato casserole and the creamed spinach. I really enjoyed both. There's a handful of option with my platter but I opted for the "Fried Boneless Catfish" and the "New Bedford Scallops." Both were really good but the breading on the scallops were falling off as they were probably sitting for a while. I'm not going to complain about this because I think it was due to my lady's meal which takes 20-25 minutes (according to the menu). The hush puppies were also amongst the best I've had. For dessert we wanted some Key Lime. It is served "Deconstructed" in a tiny Mason Jar with Raspberry Sauce, Homemade Whipped Cream and Graham Crackers. It was so good but a bit too sweet and extra tangy.
Overall, we loved The Nauti Lobstah. The ambiance, food, and service were all wonderful and we are happy to have found...
