Such a quaint spot in Arlington! Cute spot with neat decor, amazing food at great prices, and amazing service! Not the most fancy restaurant, but an amazing place to have some good food in peace.
For dinner, we had the Kakuni Don (braised pork belly) which was absolutely splendid, and the 1) Party Sushi Combo. The Kakuni was super tender, perfectly seasoned with so much flavor! It came with choy sum, half of a soft boiled egg, Hiyayakko (soft tofu with peanut sauce), kimchi, a bowl of rice, and a bowl of miso soup. The portions were HUGE given that it was only 20 dollars. It was a whole pork belly! The 1) Party Sushi Combo was also great! It featured 19 assorted pieces of nigiri, a normal roll and a specialty roll served in a sushi boat. I’m pretty sure we got the Rainbow Roll and the Phoenix Roll, both were delicious.
Apart from the food I want to say that the decor was beautiful, making the restaurant feel very cozy and like home. There are some Japanese decorations, and also the music in the background is very nice, unlike some other places with loud music that can be disruptive.
I also want to highlight the service of this restaurant. The chef of the sushi bar was really kind and gave us an extra pork dish that was on the house! The server was also very kind.
One thing, the rice for normal dishes here is different from rice of other Japanese restaurants. It’s a type of rice that will be more sticky on the outside and hard on the inside. It is typical for some Japanese restaurants, but it might be a little off to some people. Just keep that in mind.
We spent 100 dollars for 3 people with enough leftovers for a decent lunch the next day. Also place was pretty empty on a normal dinner time on Father’s Day, so it’s usually not that crowded. The parking is paid street parking.
Overall, this restaurant makes a perfect lace to enjoy some sushi and Japanese shies in peace with good service and good atmosphere. Five stars! Definitely...
Read morePretty sure I have tried all the sushi spots around Arlington over the years and Takeshi is definitely my favorite for simple, fresh sushi. I’ve done both dine in and take out a few times and they’ve all been good experiences so far. Very friendly staff too. Also, I’d personally recommend their Chirashi because it’s good quality and a great deal.
Update 5/19/23: Not changing my rating because I still think this is a go-to neighborhood sushi spot for me and I still stand by their chirashi and sushi quality but I will say the past 2 times for both takeout and dine in, it has definitely taken some time for them to get the orders ready. While dining in, there were also a few take out order pickups who seemed like they had to wait a bit. So just want to give those in a rush a...
Read moreCommented that their Dongpo pork belly was salty and burnt, and the pork feet were too salty, which differs from how most Chinese restaurants usually prepare these dishes. The owner’s response was shockingly rude and offensive. He made a racist remark, saying, “You Taiwanese people can’t get used to northern Chinese food; northern people prefer food on a saltier side.” I am not even Taiwanese to begin with, and it is surprising that he would say something like that, especially given that his restaurant is located in America. He even said, “Don’t order from us next time.” Absolutely arrogant and...
