Taqueria "La Original" — Restaurant in Arlington

Update: The restaurant has been renovated and now has a modern, café-like atmosphere, as well as a counter and new computerized payment system, which makes ordering simpler and more efficient.

This is one of the most unassuming restaurants I've ever seen, even for a taqueria, but the food is fantastic. I always go in intending to order something other than tacos, but oh! the tacos. They have a nice selection of meats (the asada is especially good). The real gem is the salsa verde: made with lime, avocado, and cilantro, it's piquant and refreshing. Love the horchata as well, it's a bit creamier and more heavily spiced than most places around Arlington.

I think this place acquired a new chef within the last year, because they used to be good, but now they are truly great. I even like their Spanish rice, which is a food I generally consider a crime against humanity. Their ingredients are also much better quality than they used to be, and the prices have gone up accordingly, but it is definitely worth it. If you want real Mexican food, quick and affordable, you should try Taqueria "La Original".

Language note: The staff mostly speaks Spanish, but I haven't had any problems...

Recently had a very unpleasant experience here. I love the food and this sweet place but the service is disappointing. My wife is allergic to cilantro and we always requested toppings on the side.

The last few months a younger more inexperienced person has been taking orders. She is very disrespectful and does not listen or communicate when spoken to. I understand there is a language barrier so I make sure to speak carefully and explain what I'm saying. We also order online and make sure to emphasize everything on the side. After trying to pick up my order for the 2nd time, I again explained my wife is allergic and would need new tacos. After spending 15 mins in the back, she proceeded to bring out the same tacos (dropped them off on a random table without saying a word and walked back into the kitchen) ; the majority of onions and cilantro scraped off. Unfortunately, there was still cilantro all over and my wife ended up having an allergic reaction. Sadly this is the last time...

Food was good. Very disappointed that they have not updated the price on their menus.. Waitress didn't even say literally all prices changed. She even seemed annoyed with taking my order and when I asked her to add up the total in front of me she looked at me ugly and didn't move an inch. Never coming back after an experience like this....
