Arrived Saturday evening and surprised to see so many empty tables. We were seated immediately. Took a look at the extensive menu, we were especially in the mood for Thai food. The curries are strangely vague in their description. Those familiar withThai food know that there are many different types of curry, however these are simply identified as "chicken Thai curry", "beef Thai curry", etc. We order chicken Thai curry, a pork wonton soup and shrimp pad thai. We notice others are brought a bowl of fried noodles and dipping sauce. Our waiter brings us nothing so we ask, he apologizes, says he forgot and brings us the complementary noodles. Not the end of the world in itself but a precursor to the less than stellar service we received during our visit. On a side note the dipping sauce tasted oddly of ketchup which I didn't care for. The soup arrives nice and hot. The broth was rich with deep flavor. The dumplings are tender but not mushy and the pork filling is nicely seasoned. The "Thai Curry" arrived on a dinner plate, curries are usually served in bowls. While a substantial amount this curry was bone dry and bland as could be. I don't even know how they could call this curry as there was only the slightest bit of actual curry sauce in this dish, thus the service on a plate. For the record it appeared to be a yellow curry. Very dissapointed in this dish, not at all what we expected and not very good. The pad Thai was a similar experience, a decent sized portion but bland, bland, bland. I really enjoy the traditional dusting of crushed peanuts on top, this was absent said peanuts. Perhaps they are catering to those with nut allergies but as one who doesn't suffer from such allergies I should have at least been given an option on the peanut issue. Whatever. The final kicker here is that after our waiter brought us our food we never saw him again. He never came back to see how the food was or if we needed anything else. I had to flag him down for the check. Very poor service on top of everything else. I don't understand it, this place has glowing reviews but our experience was sub-par. Maybe just a "one off" this night. We really wanted to like this place. Perhaps they do sushi and chinese food better but sadly there's no way I would come here for Thai food again. I'll stick with Bamboo in Bradley Beach just down road for more authentic and tastier Thai food with better service....
Read moreFound out about this eatery online and after reading a wealth of positive reviews my girlfriend and I decided to try it out.
We arrived on a Saturday afternoon around 3pm. The place was empty except for another nearby table. We had anticipated the restaurant would be quiet at this time which is something we preferred.
We started with an order of pan fried chicken dumplings for appetizers. They arrived 6 on a plate with dipping sauce. The dumplings were fantastic.
I ordered the General Tso's chicken and my girlfriend had the Thai Basil Chicken. Both arrived with a side of rice. The plated portions were quite large and I found my chicken to be crispy and delicious. Both dishes were supposed to be spicy, but they really weren't.
The quality of the meal was exceptional -- certainly better than your average take-out fare (which this establishment offers). The staff were very nice, the place was clean.
We will certainly be returning here to try...
Read moreWe moved to Spring Lake several years ago and have been looking for a high quality Chinese restaurant ever since. Lots of Japanese and Thai, but not Chinese other than store-front cheap takeout. But in a new search last night, we extended radius, we read a good review for this place, and it's all true! Worth the drive. The Triple Crown, hot and sour soup, and dumplings were all really good. Veggies were fresh broccoli. bean sprouts, etc, not just mushed onions of other places. And phone order and pick-up were very efficient. Only challenge was parking - I went across Main Street to the muni lot and paid a $1 on the Asbury parking app versus risking parking enforcement ticket for double parking in front, although other cars were doing...
