Now, I want to start off by saying I was a loyal customer of Speakeatery of more than a year, but unfortunately I will not be returning. On Tuesday, I ordered The Ole Steak Sang-Gweech, while eating I discovered a hair in my sandwich. Disgusted, I threw the sandwich in the trash. After, I called Speakeatery and spoke to Jackie, I informed her of my situation she told me if I brought the sandwich back she would refund me, I informed her that it was already in the trash, she said it was fine just to bring it back. I found it rather odd that she would want me to dig in the trash for a half eaten sandwich, but nevertheless I fished it out and returned to the shop. Upon arrival I asked the cashier for Jackie (who was no longer there) and explained my situation to her. She asked me for the sandwich (because of what happens next is the reason why I will not be returning) I told her it had been fished out of the garbage bag and all, she said it was fine, took the bag and PLACED IT ON THE COUNTER WHERE THE FOOD READY TO BE SERVED WAS!!!!!! After I told her that the bag had been in the trash, she just placed it right there, with the food, on the counter! I couldn't believe it! Not only was there a hair in my food (which I understand, accidents happen), but they also placed a dirty bag on the counter there was food!!! Completely in shock, I took my refund and vowed to never...
Read moreInexpensive Italian eatery and bar with a good bear pore but be aware the quality of meat you are eating. The chicken parm sandwich is not a real chicken breast.... I believe it has been processed, ground up with other chicken parts and reconstituted to look like a real breast. The texture is all wrong like they took thin chicken loaf, sliced it and then glued it back together. It has a strange crunch that you see in McDonald's chicken breasts. Maybe it's from China ? Personally I would pay an extra $2 for the real thing, If you don't mind eating chicken cartilage with your chicken the crunches, go right ahead and eat there. The chicken parm did taste pretty good as long as you can get past the crunch and the weird texture.
My wife had the meatball parm. It tasted a bit strange and it was very difficult to actually discern whether there was actually any meat in it. It was filling and the sauce made it taste pretty good but I'm not sure the meatballs were actually cooked cuz they weren't Brown. Mostly I think it was bread and mixed in with some kind of meat substance.
As said before, add a couple bucks to your sandwiches and use the real stuff. You patrons will...
Read moreMenu selection is outstanding for saladas and sandwiches.
I could eat a sandwich for breakfast lunch and dinner and although slightly picky because of my level of experience these sandwiches do not compare to some of the best in NJ. I'd choose this over some of my other favs like Brennan's, avenue deli in new providence, Millburn deli, irvs in neptune and Katz in the city.
They have daily specials in addition to the menu ranging from multiple versions of the Italian sub to the Reuben done right no sourkraut just Cole slaw with thousand island YUP.
I think they need to add bacon to their rosy beef sandwich and the cutlet. I also think they could throw in a liverwurst.
The main attraction they do not cheap out on but the chips and the pickle are nothing to write home about but really they are doing you a service and it's a thankless job. Hey are trying to save you the room for getting every last bit of heaven in between the two slices of bread in your belllllllyyyy.
Seating is tight and it's the usual asbury parking scene. Service is friendly but not the quickest.
Gladly give this a 100 on a...
