Botiwalla by Chai Pani — Restaurant in Asheville

I love this place, great food, cool spot but dang is the customer service downtown poor! I just came in for a quick togo Tikka wrap and the woman at the front who takes your order was super short tempered and plain rude. First she gave me attitude because I didn't want to give her my cell phone number. She didn't thank me after I paid, and then when I came back inside to get my order she said it wasn't ready yet. I noticed the three people who ordered after me were already eating and I asked the same woman where my order was. She rudely told me I go "ask the expo person in the back" who I was nowhere near and I said I'm asking you because you're standing here and you're the customer service person. She shook her head at me and went back to check and lo and behold my to go order was just sitting there getting cold. YOU NEED BETTER FOH PEOPLE! There is just no excuse whatsoever for people who are spending their hard earned money at your restaurant(with ALL the other food choices downtown) to be...

Thought we'd try it because years ago we heard there was a place in Asheville called Chai Pani that was a local hotspot for Indian food. This mustn’t be the same place.

The menu should have keyed us in since it is billed as Indian street food rather than an Indian restaurant. Also, we were the only ones in there, but we were early. You order from a counter and they deliver the food to the table. The counter man explained what was on the menu and mentioned the things he liked.

We had the Masala Smashed Potatoes. They are just fingerling potatoes that are smashed and crisped up with some spices. They were tasty, but not anything to write home about. The Gobi 65 was just essentially deep fried cauliflower.

I had the lamb seek kabab roll. It was like a big gyro with decent sized ground lamb sausage with veggies and a yogurt sauce. My wife had the Malai Chicken Tikka roll which was essentially the same thing. The chicken was very tender and tasty.

It’s not bad food, but nothing I’d be in a hurry...

Absolutely delicious and so simple. The service was incredible and all the staff was so friendly and kind. The food came out so quickly and was some of the best Indian food I’ve had. Everything was very fresh and clearly made with thought, time, and love. I had the iced chai and the Malai Chicken Tikka Roll. The chai was sweet and smooth, so good I bought their mix immediately after finishing it. The Malai chicken was perfectly marinated and the naan it was wrapped in was light fluffy and delicious.
