Detailed Review Incoming: We had an interesting experience at this restaurant today. Arrived for an Easter brunch at 10 am. We were not talked to by a waiter until 10:20. We didn’t end up getting our orders taken until 11:03 and then received our food at 11:15. Our bakery items (jalapeño biscuit, cinnamon roll) were cold and when asked if served cold they said no and apologized, took back the plate and instead of giving us a new one they “warmed it up” 🤦🏽 I would think for $45 a person they would at least give us a new one? Brunch was $45 a person but does not include coffee, juice, or any other drinks. Don’t expect to feel prioritized as during a slow morning brunch we felt invisible to the staff. The appetizers were AMAZING! Crab cakes and fried oyster were delicious and presentation was amazing. Main course was not as good as it looked but still tasty. We got the steak and eggs as well as the trout. (Trout was better) Overall this restaurant has potential and the food is pretty great. For $45 per person I would expect better treatment from staff and at least include a coffee or something! Just felt very overpriced and was saddened by lack of attention and timeliness. No food place should take 45 minutes before asking what you want to eat :/ PS: if gluten free they do not have many options in the brunch menus, also the staff is not very informed on what is GF friendly or not.

My wife and I were visiting Great Smoky Mountains NP from Oklahoma and were staying south of the park. We had a free evening and decided to venture over to Asheville for dinner and made some last minute reservations for The Market Place. We were pleasantly surprised by both Downtown Asheville and The Market Place. First and foremost our server, William, was incredible! He definitely made the entire experience 5 stars! Very friendly, personable, and helpful. Secondly, our drinks were amazing! (Appalachian Gold Rush and I forget what my wife's drink was) So, kudos to the bartenders. Truffle & Herb Fries were delicious! I would have liked a bit more seasoning on my Wood Grilled Teres Major, although I'll admit I don't have the most refined of palates! It was cooked to a perfect medium rare! My wife's Hand Cut Pappardelle was great and is what I would order if I were to go again! The Chocolate Chess Pie was a bit heavy on the sea salt and tartness of the preserved berries for my liking. Definitely not your standard chocolate dessert! But again, I'm sure many love it. Overall, we will definitely include it on our list if we are ever in the area again! Thanks again to William for making our anniversary dinner experience wonderful. I'll definitely be working to replicate that Gold Rush drink here at home as it was incredible!

The Market Place is exceptional. Chef Dissen and his team have created a dining experience that is not to be missed. The easy pace of service sets you at ease as the crew makes you feel welcome and cared for but not rushed, with a balance of being there when needed but not obtrusive at all. We loved the food menu with its southern home style and upscale flair while supporting the farm to table ethos of the restaurant. The wine list is extensive and their craft cocktails did not disappoint. We had the omelet of the day, eggs Benedict, biscuits and gravy and Billy D's fried chicken salad. While these all sound plebian, they had the twists of mastery that made them sheer perfection. Not heavy, not cloying, not overpowering, just perfectly cooked and crafted food. Then there was dessert... oh my dessert! The dark chocolate & Dulce de Leche brownie was accompanied by a sweet potato creme brulee and their huge signature cinnamon roll. Topped off with a espresso and the best dessert wine I've had in years (Bodegas Toro Albala 1990) and we were fully satiated and at ease. I heard about the Market Place from the Gordon Ramsey Smokey Mointains episode and when he praised Chef William Dissen he was spot on. We will return again (and again and again)! Thanks staff and chef, twas wonderful.

Dining at The Market Place in Asheville is more than just a meal—it’s an experience that transcends the ordinary and ventures into the extraordinary. From the moment we entered, we were embraced by an ambiance that perfectly marries rustic charm with modern sophistication, setting the tone for an unforgettable evening.

At the heart of this exceptional restaurant are two extraordinary individuals: Chef Brett Suess and General Manager Kate Edge. Chef Brett, the creative genius behind the culinary masterpieces we enjoyed, demonstrates a profound understanding of flavor, technique, and presentation. His dishes are a celebration of the region’s finest ingredients, each plate a testament to his skill and passion. Chef Brett’s ability to innovate while staying true to the essence of each ingredient is nothing short of remarkable. Every course was not just a meal but a sensory journey, with flavors that surprised and delighted at every turn.

Kate, the General Manager, brings a level of hospitality that is both warm and impeccably professional. Her attention to detail ensures that every aspect of the dining experience is flawless, from the moment guests arrive to the final farewell. Kate’s leadership is evident in the seamless operation of the restaurant, where the staff work in perfect harmony to create an environment that feels both welcoming and refined.

Our server, Dakota, was outstanding and deserves special mention. His deep knowledge of the menu and thoughtful recommendations made our dining experience even more memorable. Dakota’s service was attentive and intuitive, striking the perfect balance between being present and allowing us to enjoy our evening at our own pace. He truly made us feel like honored guests, adding a personal touch that elevated the entire experience.

The food, as expected, was beyond exceptional. Each dish was a masterpiece of flavor and artistry, beautifully presented and perfectly executed. From the first bite to the last, we were treated to a culinary adventure that highlighted the very best of local and seasonal produce.

In a city renowned for its vibrant food scene, The Market Place is a standout. This restaurant, under the expert guidance of Chef Brett and Kate, offers an experience that lingers long after the meal is over. If you find yourself in Asheville, The Market Place is an absolute must-visit. It’s not just dining—it’s an experience that celebrates the very best of what food and...

My sister and brother-in-law are new to the area and wanted to try this restaurant because of the recent James Beard nomination. I told her my husband and I had a bad experience two years ago, but were willing to give it another try. We were sat upstairs which is drab, and for some reason they were having a problem with lighting. Bright yellow lighting on both sides of the room. The Chef/Owner, William Dissen came by and introduced himself, which gave us "high hopes" for a great experience. The waiter was horrible. Wish I had a dollar for every time he apologized and made excuses. The restaurant wasn't even busy for a Friday night. The drinks, appetizers and main courses were slow and BORING. We all ordered different things because we like "trying it all". We ordered the fish, paste, lamb shank and burger. Very sad to say, there was absolutely nothing interesting. There was not one thing that made us want to go back FOLLOWING IS MY REVIEW FROM TWO YEARS AGO Very sorry to say it was a true disappointment last night. My husband and I took a friend to dinner and it was embarrassing. Our waiter was overwhelmed the whole two hours we were there. Since I use to be a wait staff trainer, I recognize panic when I see it. We were there ten minutes before he stopped by to take drink orders. First we ordered the charcuterie board, which we hadn’t had when we had been here before. When it was delivered to the table by a food runner, she just dropped it off and left. No explanation of what was on it. Our guest thought one of the items was hummus. He put it on a cracker, just to find out it was mustard! He had the pork and my husband had the tuna, which they enjoyed. I had the 10 oz $50 strip steak, medium rare, and it was too tough to chew. I didn’t even take it home for my dog! The waiter never stopped by to see how the food was. We barely saw him except for his running by the table constantly. When he dropped the check at our table, our guest had just walked over to say hello to someone, so I told the waiter about the steak. He removed it from our check. We left a 15% tip (on the original total) I know that’s low. I never blame the waiter when there’s a problem with food. It’s the service you tip on. Not a...
