Golden Hour at The Radical – A 1000/10 Asheville Dining Experience If you're heading to Asheville, make sure Golden Hour at The Radical is at the top of your list. The atmosphere and environment are an easy 1000 out of 10 — from the stunning design to the warm, golden light that fills the space, it’s one of those rare spots that feels effortlessly cool and inviting. We went in to try their new menu, and honestly? It’s majestic. We started with the Ash-Roasted Beets — a perfect harmony of creamy stracciatella, crunchy nuts, and homemade focaccia. The textures, the flavor, the colors — it was beautifully done and bursting with depth. Next came the Greens and Purples, a colorful and bold dish where the bitter radicchio meets a tangy, rich yogurt. A gorgeous balance of fresh and earthy. For entrées: The Chop Shop Pork Steak was cooked to perfection and served with beans, peas, and apple — a comforting, savory dish with a subtle sweetness. The Rack of Lamb is a must. Grilled beautifully and paired with chive (ciboulette) and mint, it delivered a complex burst of flavors that lingered in the best way. We ended with the Vanilla Panna Cotta with peaches and basil — possibly grilled peaches (they tasted like it!). The addition of basil and olive oil made it a sweet-meets-savory dessert that stood out. Cocktails? Don’t miss the Autumn Ember. It had an impressive presentation and a bold, layered profile that paired perfectly with the meal. Special shoutout to our server Nehemiah, the service was top-notch, and their knowledge of each dish really elevated the experience.

I ride my bike down in the River Arts District and I watched over the months as an old brick building was transformed into The Radical, an upscale boutique hotel, so I was happy when friends invited us to have dinner in the hotel's restaurant, Golden Hour, and excited to check it out. I wasn't disappointed. From what I got to see of the hotel, they did a fantastic job with the transformation. It's beautiful and has a nice vibe. Golden Hour is warm and comfortable. We had a drink at the bar and Kelsey made me an excellent Old Fashioned ($15) and my wife had prosecco ($10). When the others arrived, we moved to a table. About two-thirds of the tables were filled yet it wasn't loud and we could talk without having to raise our voices. Jen did a great job taking care of us. She suggested the shellfish beignets ($18) as a starter and it was a very good choice. My wife had a salad ($16) and I had the duck confit ($30) with a side of fries ($10). Both dishes looked and tasted great. If you're looking for a nice night out in Asheville, you should definitely consider giving Golden Hour a try ... I know we'll be going back there soon.

Didn't want to write this but feel I need to. We were regulars at Golden hour pre-Helene. One of our top 3 restaurants in Asheville. The vibe, the food the service, all five stars.

It's taken a while for us to hit all our spots post-Helene, but we have talked about getting back to GH, and finally booked a table yesterday.

Vibe is still there, but things have changed. Head bartender was somewhat attentive at first, but about 20min in, we noticed she was more obsessed with the point-of-sale and cleanup, than she was with customers. She had plenty of support staff, but she seemed to spend less time with customers than with her operative duties. I'd say the split was roughly 30% customer attention, 70% doing other things. By the time 830 rolled around, she was essentially shutting down the bar, mostly focused on closing duties.

Charcuterie was awesome. Smashburger was good. My wife's dish, Chicken and Rice was inedible: hirribky overseasoned, salt was the culprit. So much so, we thought it may have been a kitchen error, something along the lines of a cap falling off a jar.

We try to be "good customers". Polite, chatty, always tip well because we kive in this community and know what the service industry is up against. It's hard to stomach as Golden Hour was truly one of our favorites. We'll visit again in 2026 to see if things may...
