I had high hopes for this well regarded establishment, unfortunately, after a few visits, I’m left with an overall feeling of disappointment.
For starters, on my last visit, we ordered a 12” cheese pizza, a side of fried chickpeas, a can of wine and an unsweet tea. That totaled us $45 before tip.
Now, you might say, “Asheville is expensive”. And often that would be an accurate assessment. However, the quality of the food does not align with the pricing, whatsoever.
The pizza, was extremely thin, and it was clear they were cutting food costs by using as little sauce and cheese as possible. Nearly 1/3 the pizza was bare. I expected much more for a $16 pizza. Comparable pizzas from Pizza Mind or Standard Pizza clearly offer a better value. (And taste)
It feels as if the restaurant is going through some kind of financial situation wherein they’ve decided to cut corners on the food and raise prices to makeup for some shortcomings, but they’ve cut too many corners, and the prices are not justified by the pizza.
In all honesty, this restaurant is a short drive from Asheville Brewing Company, Pizza Mind, Standard Pizza or Pie Zaa, all of which are a better experience...
Read moreFirst let me say that the soft serve ice cream was quite good and probably the secret strength of this place. The appetizers, while expensive for what they are, were also quite good. If you visit in the near future, I recommend the peaches.
Unfortunately, this is a high-end pizza place. The pizza was fired well, but the sauce was weak, the dough tasted like a bland cracker, and the topping distribution was laughable. A third of the pizza had none of the toppings, while the rest was packed with toppings. That was a detail that really surprised me.
The wine selection was good. It’s always nice to see selections from the Occhipintis. The beer selection was uninspired and the price structure was weirdly flat.
The service was poor and it was strangely difficult to place an order despite how many employees were standing around. They have a pretty nice patio and getting your own water is easy.
I wasn’t bothered by it, but I’m sure others will want to know that they add a 4% charge on that they say goes to the kitchen staff.
There is better pizza in Asheville and there are generally so many good places to eat that I’d recommend checking out...
Read moreMy wife and I really wanted to like this place, but unfortunately we did not have a pleasant experience. The service was very stand-off-ish to say the least. We ordered a polenta pizza and a normal pizza and they were lacking taste. Therefore we thought we would order a side of Mariana sauce to offset the flavorless pizzas. I flagged down the server and asked if she could bring us some. She looked over to the line of people (which was approximately 15 or 20 people at this point) and said we would need to wait in line. So not only was she not able to sympathize, and said I don’t care about you, so get in line. So i could either wait 20 minutes in line or had to put myself and another innocent guest in an undesirable situation and ask if I could pass them for a moment. I guess the icing on the cake was that I had to pay 6 dollars for some marinara sauce on top of the 45 dollar pizzas.
On a good note the warm olives were quite good and the patio is really nice and chill.
All in all, if you like rude staff and expensive tasteless pizza on a nice patio this...
