Puerto Mazatlán is a heartfelt culinary experience.
There are restaurants that serve food, and then there are places like Puerto Mazatlán, where every dish tells a story of passion, care, and tradition. From the moment you walk through the doors, you’re welcomed not just as a customer but as part of something bigger, a community that values great food, warm service, and the connections built over a shared meal.
The staff here are more than just employees; they are the heartbeat of this restaurant. Every interaction, every recommendation, and every dish that leaves the kitchen is infused with genuine care and hospitality. But the true soul of Puerto Mazatlán lies with its owner, a person whose love for this craft is evident in every detail, from the ambiance to the menu, and most importantly, in the food itself.
The menu is a masterclass in simplicity and intelligence. It’s large yet focused, offering traditional recipes made with fresh, sustainable ingredients that highlight the beauty of authentic Mexican cuisine. Every bite reflects the time-honored techniques and deep flavors that make this food so comforting. While I’ve trained in fine dining, there’s something about eating here that reminds me of why I fell in love with this industry in the first place. It strips away the pretension and brings cooking back to its core, nourishing both the body and the soul.
Puerto Mazatlán isn’t just a place to grab a meal; it’s where memories are made. Whether you’re stopping in for an expertly crafted cocktail, a comforting plate of enchiladas, or a sizzling dish of fajitas, this is the kind of restaurant that brings people closer. It’s a place to laugh with friends, reconnect with family, and experience food the way it was meant to be enjoyed, in a space filled with love, effort, and a deep respect for the craft.
If you find yourself in Ashland, do yourself a favor and stop by Puerto Mazatlán. You’ll leave full, happy, and reminded of what truly makes this...
Read moreFor a small town (with a huge tourist attraction), there are many choices for Mexican food in town. After eating at a place near the highway/hotel, we decided to try Puerto Mazatlan. I am glad we did!
The food was much better overall than the other restaurant we tried. It appears to be run by a local family. The evening we were in, they were throwing a birthday party for the owner’s family.
The salsa was delicious, however the chips needed more salt (or spices) to lift it out of the doldrums. I had a chicken fajita, and it was seasoned well with lots of onions. The rice & guacamole was a nice addition and it tasted great. The corn tortillas were hot (not Luke warm like the other place).
My friend had a spicy chicken dish that she hasn’t stopped raving about since we left (I think she wants me to try to make it).
Like the Greenleaf Restaurant, this is another restaurant I plan to return to when we come back...
