Admittedly I am very picky when I eat out and hesitate to try new places for fear of disappointment. This place, though there was one element which needs improvement genuinely shocked me.
Starters: I hope the GM reads this cause asking one person to answer the phones/take online orders and in person orders is ridiculous which resulted a wait time which normally would push me away. But, I was very impressed by the atmosphere and though they are outdoor seating ONLY, the heaters provide are more than efficient on a cold Ashland day.
I closely watched the chefs as they ran a very well put together kitchen as we got our food in ten minutes. It was busy, with in person and online orders which suggests the bearded chef is the only one in Ashland I have witnessed can prioritize prioritize.
The food was INCREDIBLE. I really wanted to take pics but I was so excited to dig in especially after asking for extra pickles and getting almost a whole jar!!!!!!! Somebody understands my pickle obsessions. I ordered the turkey cranberry sandwich and I was delighted! I read the low reviews stating they don’t put enough meat on it and that is somewhat true but, I felt the contrasts were perfectly balanced however the bread was a bit thick so stick with the recommendation of the (more at home bread). I have worked in many many kitchens and perfected top end burgers and was astounded they got this perfect for my partner. It was medium (without asking) and devoured in minutes.
Special note…..whoever came up with the potato salad recipe…I want to have your babies! The myriad of flavors/textures was so above and beyond even...
Read moreSammich is by far the best lunch spot I have ever eaten at. It was so good in fact, that during my 10 days in Ashland I ate there 8 times. Each “sammich” that I tried was just amazing – Pastrami and Italian beef were my personal favorites though. The Albacore was unlike any Tuna sandwich I have ever had, so fresh and delicious. The Timbo is top notch as well. They make their own everything pretty much, but want to point out that the Giardiniera beats just about all Chicago Giardinieras I have tried. Specials were solid as well – everything I tried there was awesome.
I would’ve returned based on the food alone, but the people and atmosphere definitely made me want to come back. The owner Melissa is the bomb – and a fellow Chicago sports fan that knows her stuff! She was a blast to talk to and made me feel like family right away! Bobby the chef/raiders fan was great also – he told me how my sammich is typically prepared and would make any adjustments I wanted (usually extra giardiniera). Seating inside or outside – I really enjoyed the back patio, nice place to eat and have a beer.
Overall, this is no doubt a 5/5 lunch spot and if you are thinking about going – do it, do it. I can’t wait to get back to Ashland and dominate some...
Read moreThis was our first and last experience at Sammich....
I went there with my boyfriend and asked what came on a curtain order, as I heard the things I didn't want on it I asked if they could take them off. They seemed to have a problem with this. Then I asked if I could add a few things instead of the other stuff I didn't like. " Yo this isn't like SubWay man", I heard a voice say and turned to my left. " Do you work here?" I asked. He was sitting alone at a table eating. ( Maybe on his break?) "Yeah but," The man replied and then started saying other things before I interrupted and said. " That's not good customer service" I heard the same thing come out of the persons mouth that was taking my order earlier. After hearing it twice I turned to my boyfriend and said " I don't want to eat here" and we walked out.
We didn't even get to finish ordering! This was by far the worst customer service I have ever received. I will never go there again. I tell everyone this story about my experience when the subject of the Ashland Sammich comes up. I hope they change their attitudes and focus on some better customer...
