This was by far the worst service and food I've had in quite a while. I wanted to surprise my partner with Chinese food for bday lunch since just moving to Ashland, when I called to place my order I was told continuously throughout the whole conversation that he was really busy in the restaurant as I was asking a couple quick/small questions about one of the dishes they had and was made to feel extremely rushed to say what I wanted as if he did not have time to talk to me (hey we all get super busy I get it, I've just never had anyone so rude and blunt about it). When I did finally place my order I asked one last question at the end and was hung up on. All of this made me nearly not want to go to this restaurant, but I wouldn't do that to anyone especially since they were already cooking it, when I got there to pick up my order, my food looked absolutely nothing like what the photos showed from their menu online, I had ordered family chow mein that showed the very thin noodles, what I got was the most gigantic and soggy noodles I've ever had that had a funny taste, their "sweet and sour" sauce was very obveously mai poi from the bottle, and the peanut sauce was like thick jif peanut butter straight from the jar barely watered down, with the vegetable vermicelli that had nothing but broccoli, raw bean sprouts, small amount of cucumber and a lot of white noodles with sauce that was like mostly water with a tiny bit of funny tasting orange flavoring. Overall a very unfortunate unexpected terrible experience of food and service. This will be my fist and last time ever going...
Read moreHappy Bowl is full of kind courteous people and good food. From the comforts of a great bowl of Pho to a more adventurous plate from the secret chinese menu, there is something for everyone here.
Food is reasonably price and even when busy, the wait is pretty minimal. It can be hot inside with the summer months (just think of the talented and hardworking chefs laboring at the open-view grill) it's something that can be mitigated with their outdoor seating and shade umbrellas.
I have been to Happy Bowl many times and have always left full and happy. :)
The menu has multiple vegetarian and likely gluten-free options, though I am unsure about vegan options. The atmosphere is casual and maybe a little cheerfully silly at times, though it may not be the best place for small children.
Definitely a good stop for those who would like their Chinese/Vietnamese food to not cater specifically to a boring American palate, Happy Bowl is one of my favorite stops for quick little dates with my partner before seeing a movie or other activities....
Read moreFor my fellow veggiesauruses: I had not eaten Phô since I moved here (about two months ago) and I truly missed my soup and spring rolls! I looked up all Vietnamese spots but was hesitant to check them out since I'd already had horrific experiences with "Mexican" food. But thats a whole other enchilada.. Anyway, I had overheard a co-worker of mine mention this spot, and felt it was a sign for me to go check it out! I asked her if she liked it and she said it was one of the best spots in the area! And sure enough, I was not disappointed. I almost cried tears of joy cos the Phô I ordered was heavenly !! Perfect amount as well. Delicious veggie broth. The spring rolls were good. The peanut sauce was excellent. I'm personally not a fan of cucumbers in my rolls, but if you dig that, then you'll love them.
This place has become my new go-to spot for those occasional Phô hankerings 🍜
The service was delightful as well! You've got a...
