As I stepped across the threshold, a wave of nostalgia swept over me. The ambiance echoed with the melodies of bygone eras, and vintage memorabilia adorned the walls like pages from history's diary. The menu, a map of flavors, beckoned with promises of gastronomic exploration.
Ah, the sourdough crust, a marvel that could've been sculpted by the hands of time itself! Like the forging of a nation, it emerged from the fiery embrace of the oven—a testament to craftsmanship and tradition. Its aroma was a symphony of yeasty fragrance, hinting at the depth of flavor to come.
The staff, like modern storytellers, shared tales of the pizza's inception. Their voices resonated with pride, as they recounted the tale of the "Sourdough Revolution," when a dedicated few embarked on a journey to perfect the sourdough art. Their dedication was palpable, and their service a testament to American hospitality.
As I left the Great American Pizza Company, I carried with me a story to pass down—a story of a place where heritage and innovation danced, where the sourdough crust stood as a symbol of excellence. This establishment, a treasure trove of flavors and history, had etched its name in the annals of time, leaving an indelible mark on the palates and hearts of all who...
Read moreDang! I forgot to take photos. My parents & brother came out to Ashland & bought me lunch last weekend here at the GAPCO. For Veterans day. Considering what we all went through in order to get to this event. It is worth mentioning. Ashland is known for it's dining. Mom chose this place. She knows how I luv it. I don't often go out on account of war related PTSD. Ten years ago I didn't think I would ever see my family again. After learning I had the affliction & a negative outburst from me caused them to react in fear. I woke up to a Sherrifs' deputy handing me a no contact order. Against me from my Family for three years. That was a cruddy three years. Their distrust of me took even longer to rebuild. If there is a moral. Try and understand before going and calling the Sheriff on somebody. They say they were afraid of me. They don't know how scary it is having to operate in society with PTSD and no Family. If I was going to harm somebody no Sheriff in the world is going to stop me. For one. Hell. I'm the Infantry. I became a Soldier to protect my family. Not harm them. And this place Is the Greatest Amrican Pizza...
Read moreI just had two of the best pizzas I've had in years--the Sizzler and the Vegetarian--here at the Great American Pizza Company. The flavors really come alive on these pizzas. We usually have our favorites as we travel around Oregon like Pietro's and Abby's, so this was a joyful surprise to find GAPCO after a stressful descent into Ashland. The vegetables were crisp and fresh on a tangy sauce, and the Sizzler's pepperoncini heat was perfectly balanced with the full slices of linguica that made my Portuguese tongue dance with appreciation. GAPCO has great craft brews on tap including the local Caldera brews and seasonally appropriate Jubelale. Service was timely and friendly. It has a fun, local vibe with SOU posters in the window that almost made me feel guilty for wearing my Portland State alumni sweatshirt, and a family-friendly area with toys and books. It's all worth coming back for on a sunny day with our pups to enjoy a slice and a pint on the front deck equipped with water bowls.
Oh, and my sweetheart insists that a pizza review can never be...
