Firstly I need to note: Koi Poke & Ramen is not exclusive to anime lovers / weebs / otakus, so don't be turned away by the wall art and hanging art scrolls.
When I first walked in, I was greeted by friendly staff, a cozy interior, and surprisingly music from Ado, a growing in popularity Japanese artist, which was different from what I was expecting! (Away from your usual chinese restaurant music.)
There wasn't a long wait for the well priced food. Actually, I made a mistake my first time: ordering with extra noodles! The food is so filling and well crafted, I almost couldn't finish it all. The menus displayed on the screens were also straightforward with their ingredients, no having to decipher long descriptions.
That is where the informational part of my review ends, but I'd like to get personal as well, so if you wanted just information on where a good place to eat is, you have my answer.
Koi Poke & Ramen has slowly been becoming my Ichiraku Ramen. I've felt like an outsider all my life with my interests, my personality, everything. This place has the kind of environment where I can sit quietly and immerse myself in my own world. I don't feel judged, I have just enough distraction from my invasive, depressing thoughts to be able to just think normally. I worry less at this restaurant, and that doesn't happen normally for me. I'm the kind of weird guy who walks proudly with my nerd on my sleeve. These guys have crafted a small home-like atmosphere for a major nerd like me and I can't appreciate that enough. I hope me and my goofy Donquixote Doflamingo sunglasses can continue to enjoy what Koi offers for...
Read moreAfter dining at Koi Reman, I must express my disappointment with the quality of their food. Frankly, their ramen might be worse than what one could easily prepare at home. The issues I noticed are as follows:
Noodle Quality: The noodles served at Koi Reman do not resemble authentic ramen noodles at all. They seem more like rice noodles or something similar, completely missing the texture and taste of proper ramen. Broth Flavor: The broth tasted like it was entirely dependent on MSG, lacking any depth or richness that comes from pork or chicken bones. There was no hint of the authentic flavors that make ramen broth special. Toppings: Their so-called Japanese chashu doesn’t resemble authentic chashu at all, and the egg they serve is more like a Chinese marinated egg rather than the soft-boiled, flavored egg typical of Japanese ramen.
Overall, Koi Reman’s ramen feels like a poor imitation, cobbled together from Chinese-style ingredients, completely missing the essence of true Japanese ramen.
Decor and Copyright Issues: Furthermore, the restaurant’s decor heavily features characters from Japanese anime, such as Naruto and One Piece. I wonder if they have obtained the proper licenses to use these characters. Using someone else’s creative work without permission raises serious intellectual property concerns and calls into question their business ethics.
Questionable Reviews: Given these issues, I have strong doubts about the legitimacy of the “good” or “high” ratings they have received. It’s possible that these reviews are fabricated or obtained through...
Read moreThe food was basic, not worth the price. The serving was small. There was nothing special about the food that made it stand out. Could easily be made at home with the same quality for a quarter of the price. I got a ramen and large poke bowl and grilled chicken appetizer with a boba tea for myself. The total came out to $50. The ramen bowl was small and only the size of one pack of noodles that you would normally make at home. The broth was okay only, about as good as what you could make at home with the jarred broth you can buy at the store. They also forgot some of the garnish for my ramen. The poke bowl was expensive for simple ingredients. It costs $1.00 to add an ingredient to it. It was lacking the more complex ingredients you would expect of higher end poke bowls. The boba tea was a bit watery and the boba balls were rubbery and not cooked long enough. I decided to try the place out, would not go again. Not worth the price and the food isn’t too special either. The food was ready within 10 minutes though. Which means everything was already preprepped. You’re better off going to Sushi Lover and buffetting on higher quality food for half or the same price! I don’t think this place will stay running and will eventually go out of business. Was a nice idea but you don’t leave fully satisfied. This is my full honest review use it to spare yourself some...
