We arrived toward the end of the dinner rush (around 6-6:15pm on a Saturday evening), and the staff were great about letting us (and 3 other groups) know that they were cleaning off tables and would be ready to seat us soon. The customer service started off great, but quickly went downhill.
When placing our order, the staff member did not share the specials that were written on the board near the entrance (and weren't in the menu) and seemed unknowledgeable of the menu and options. We asked if we could upgrade--replacing the salad that came with the pasta "dinner" option with a soup--but he didn't know, and when he came back to inform us that this was an option, he didn't know the soup options and seemed flustered/frustrated with us when we asked. We assumed he was new and we were fine with him checking to see that this upgrade was an option, but we hoped he would have come back prepared with the soup options, since he had already taken our menus and knew we were interested in a soup.
We received our appetizer (Pesto Cheese Bread) quickly, but it wasn't that great; the food did not taste fresh. The bread was soggy and likely reheated/microwaved. Once we received our soup (Cream of Potato) and salad (Garden Salad), the soup was cold. The soup also looked and tasted like it was microwaved and not fresh. Also, when a waitress placed the salad down on the table, she had salad dressing on her thumb (likely from another customer's salad as it was a different dressing than what we ordered), so I worry she was cross-contaminating/touching other food items.
We waited nearly an hour for our meals (we ordered pasta). By then, half the restaurant cleared out, and people who arrived 10-20+ minutes after us had already received their meals (both pasta and pizza meals) and were almost done eating. Staff came around to these other tables to check if they enjoyed the meal, needed water refills, or needed boxes and the check, but we were skipped. We were trying to be patient and understanding since it was busier when we first arrived, but we almost had to ask when we would receive our food. Unlike other guests, staff did not stop by to ask how the food was or if we needed anything. Once we were done eating and placed our food to the side to indicate we were done, the table next to us was asked if they wanted dessert, but when we informed the staff that we were done, we weren't asked similarly.
Regarding the meal, the pasta was alright, but the price seemed high for not including vegetables other than tomatoes in the sauce. We could go to another Italian restaurant in town and receive a pasta dish with better flavors, fresher ingredients, and more vegetables at a similar price. Also, it seemed odd that one of us received a breadstick, while the other received garlic bread (the menu states that pasta dishes receive garlic bread).
When we received the bill, we were surprised that we were charged full price for the soup. We acknowledged there would be an upgrade for requesting a soup instead of a salad with the "dinner" option for our pastas, but we were charged for a salad we did not receive. Also, we were not informed that we pay the bill at the front, but we eventually figured this out.
We were very disappointed with the customer service. We noticed that other tables were attended to, but we were largely ignored. We've had positive experiences with Sammy's in the past, but this experience reminds us of our experience with Grazies (which went downhill in customer service and food quality over the last 3+ years and eventually closed). We hope Sammy's doesn't follow a...
Read moreFour of us went on a Saturday night, May 6, 2017. Restaurant was almost full with no wait. We all ordered a dinner that came with salad or soup . Three salads and a soup arrived. This was the first problem. The woman, who was not our waitress, could not figure out which dressing was which. When we took the chance to get the salad with the dressing we ordered, she stuck her thumb in my dressing (plates are stylish buy tiny so dressing was in the corner). When she placed another salad down, she picked it up at an angle so it had tipped on her tray, leaving most of the croutons on the tray and no longer on the served salad. We began to eat. We were hungry due to a long drive, so our group was actually eating faster than normal. Again, those tiny plates made it difficult to get the salad on the fork. They overflowed from the tiny plates and some ended up on the table. I think they want the salad to look larger than it is? We were not finished with the salad and a few servers were standing around us and trying to put our food down even though we were still eating. The table was small and there was no room. They stood there and one woman tried to take my salad plate as I was eating. I had one more bite but she was impatient. I just continued. One of the others still had half a salad that she had to move out of the way. Not sure if they just took the third salad away or not. They had to place the garlic bread baskets on our bread plates --seems unsanitary. I wasn't going to use that plate after that!? The food was good enough but not spectacular. Garlic bread was low quality. If I am going to consume high calories, I want it to be great! One in the party who loves alfredo sauce said that it tasted like it was from a jar and seemed to be missing something. We will not be going back there. The price was way to high for the quality of the food and service. If they want to move people in an out like cattle, they should charge less and have pick up at the counter. There was still no one waiting when we left so I have no idea why they were in such a rush. We wrapped up most of...
Read moreMisunderstanding handled poorly by owner. I purchased a parking ticket for a packer game one Sunday at Sammy's and at the point of purchase I was given the impression that if you bring your parking ticket back you can park for a second time, so we went back to park there for a second game. We showed our ticket to the lady who was handling ticket purchases and proceeded to go park. The owner then stormed up to our car scowling and told us we had to purchase a ticket, I showed him we had a ticket tried to explain my previous understanding and inquire as to where the mix up came in, sadly the only explanation I received was snide remark about how he cant let people park for 10 games a year for 20 dollars(I only ever thought it was 2 games total). I would have been happy to purchase another ticket and chalk things up to the fact that I must have misunderstood, if he had just treaded me respectfully. I can not speak for the quality of food, but what I can say is that the owner is far from a pleasant person in my experience.
