Mixed Feelings About El Jarocho
On my first visit, I came in the evening and ordered the steak fajitas. The prices were definitely on the higher side, but the portions were generous, and the service was outstanding. Our waiter was fantastic! Constantly checking on us and making sure our drinks were full, which made the higher prices feel more justified. The atmosphere was nice, with a cozy vibe near the water, adding to the overall experience.
However, my second visit during the day was a complete contrast. I ordered the steak fajitas again, but this time, the dish felt like a totally different experience. There was barely any steak, and the overall portion size seemed smaller. To make matters worse, the service was lacking..our waitress never refilled our drinks, and it felt like we were forgotten about. Even though we were some of the only people in there..The quality of both the food and service just didn’t match the price this time around.
Also there's no children's menu and they raise the prices of everything during the weekend. I ordered one enchilada for my 9 year old and it came to $18...
The parking situation is another downside. The restaurant is located in a popular area, and parking can be a nightmare. More often than not, you’ll find yourself having to park blocks away and walk.
Given my mixed experiences, I’d say if I do return, it will definitely be in the evening when the service and food were better, making it feel like the experience is worth the...
Read moreOur waitress was kind and prompt, especially considering how busy it was on a Thursday evening!. I'm happy to see them thriving. It was loud and crowded, so not the best environment for a conversation with your partner, but there isn't much they can do given the popularity! They do the most with their space, with bar tables/stools all around the room in a taqueria style. Smart, and familiar for us. They give you SO much food, enough for 2 people. I had the chile relleno burrito, my FAVORITE and hard to find. Since the burrito was so big, the pepper took residence on one side. This should definitely have 2 peppers if the burrito is to be that long. The guacamole is the best I have had in Astoria. The margaritas are the size of your head. They make their own mixes, including this blue caracao. Isn't it gorgeous? It was tasty and well balanced, which I appreciated. I expect tequila in my drink and they deliver! Thank you. I wasn't fond of the chips or beans, they had a strange flavor and I don't want to know what it was at this point....but I think this may be a matter of personal taste. This isn't my favorite Mexican restaurant in town, but you should try it if you...
Read moreThis establishment absolutely has some of the worst service we have experienced in clatsop county. My family and I were excited to try a different restaurant that wasn’t one of our “regular” spots. We were beyond disappointed with how we were treated. They were only 4 tables in the place and two girls working. We barley saw our waitress, she never looked up at us once or made ANY eye contact..even when she brought our meals. Her body language seemed as if she had better things to do and we were bothering her. We had to flag down and ask for every refill we needed. She did not come back and check on us. When my son spilled his water they brought us a rag and walked away, they didn’t even offer to help OR come back and take the dirty rag off the table…..at the end when she brought me my receipt AFTER I paid she just stuck her hand around the corner and dropped it on the table. Not even so much as a thank you or goodnight. absolutely will...
