Sitting here hungry. I have been a customer since the beginning of Hong Kong. I also lived across the street for many years and they fed me often while my husband commercial fished. I know the menu very well. I ordered my usual HongKongSpecial pan fried noodle. Just like Hong KongSpecialFried Rice. Under $10 and enough food for 2 anytime. I recieved a plate of fried foods with my noodles buried at the bottom. Sweet and sour stuff (Not my thing) I don't eat deep fried foods, so the shrimp was also not edible for me. Eating the dinner was not a option. I assume it was the daily special with fried noodles that I was served. The owner/cook treated the WONDERFUL new bartender horribly, yelling (as usual), told him I am wrong! The customer of over 20 years. That it IS Hong Kong Special. HE NEVER cooked me a new order of food. I was to wait another 10 tickets for my meal to be cooked. The owner/chef was also too busy to come out and discuss the menu issue! Too busy to care for a long time customer. I used to be treated quite...
Read moreMy family had recommended this restaurant to me if I was in Astoria, so I tried Hong Kong Restaurant out today. The portions are fairly large and they have decent-priced lunch specials but, unfortunately, for me, the food was not that tasty 😔. I ordered the Sweet And Sour Chicken and Almond Chicken with steamed white rice. The food tasted like it was reheated and not particularly fresh. The Almond Chicken was really unappetizing. The chicken was off color , very chewy, and covered in not-so- flavorful or pleasant beige gravy. I did see a few almonds on top but, after one bite, I didn't eat anymore. Really a big "yuck" for me. The Sweet And Sour Chicken was okay, but again, did not taste fresh. One of my dining partners said the food wasn't what they were used to ( as they'd visited a few times), so maybe it was an "off day". In any case, I was not impressed and not sure I'd come back... A real bummer because I was really expecting to...
Read moreAppearance on front of the building is kind of a turn off. We almost didn't go here because of it, but the inside was nice. We were the only ones in there so we were sat quickly. Not many drink options, just hot tea and water. We got our food quickly (remember, we were the only people there) Food was ok-ish. Way too many onions in the rice. Sesame chicken was not what we expected. Sweet and sour chicken was awesome. Not crazy overpriced and good portions. As to the service........... We could've went without the "manager" (if thats what he calls himself...I look more professional than him and I didnt even try) and our waitress cussing and bickering at eachother right behind our table. It was extremely unprofessional. We only had our food for 5 minutes but asked for the check because it was so awkward. Definitely not the way to act in front...
