Let’s start off with something good: the service. Service was good- our waitress was nice and attentive and great with refills.
Now on to the nitty gritty. This place took over a beloved pizzeria in Athens- Transmet. Starland is nothing like it. It’s not good at all. We started our meal with the garlic and spinach spirale- the menu didn’t indicated that it also had mushrooms in it, but it did. It arrived terribly under baked to the point it was raw in the middle. It was overstuffed thus hindering the doughs ability to cook at all. The cooks probably saw that the cheese was burning on top and thought that the spirale was done cooking. This just shows that the cooks are inexperienced.
At this point we hoped that the pizza was a little better. We ordered a medium Bianca and added black olives and banana peppers. First let’s start with the price- extra toppings for a medium pizza are $2 a pop- it’s a total rip off considering the toppings we asked for probably cost 25 cents tops. The pizza was a total let down. It starts with a base of ricotta cheese then is topped with mozzarella, parmesan and basil. The ricotta lets out so much oil that the cheese on top just peels off the pizza. The cheeses were not a good combination and FYI when you chop basil you don’t chop the stems too. There were inedible parts of the basil plant on top of our pizza like woody stems- this also indicates laziness with the cooks. The black olives were so tinny in flavor (meaning you can taste that they are from a can) that we had to pick them off. Ultimately we just peeled all the cheese and toppings off and at the crust- it was better that way.
Don’t waste your money here. There are much better pizza joints in Athens.
On a side note: the tables in the booths have inappropriate and derogatory words scratched into them- you might want to...
Read moreVulger, Rude, Extremely Raunchy NOT FOR FAMILIES Terrible Atmosphere 1st time and worst impression EVER That was our experience. I don't think I have ever written a Google review like this bf nor has there been a need to but i geel the need to warn other descent people. The music being played in there was the nastiest I have ever heard. Music PORN is how to describe it. What i would imagine being played at a strip joint! Being with a group of ladies my husband asked the young guy TWICE behind the bar to turn the music to something not so vulgar. He smirked laughed and kept playing it. He even continued to argue with him after he asked the 2nd time. We were literally the only customers in there. I understand this is a college town where that's the norm & if the place was packed I'd understand. But again we were the only ones in there. My husband said " man I have my wife and a group of ladies here" Such a disrespectful punk of a kid working there & we will never be back. We were here on Tu night the 5th of Aug from about 8:00- 9:00. We almost left bf our bowling game was done and would have stayed much longer but we will not return. My husband even went and asked him a 2nd time. How hard would it have been for him to say to the PAYING customer "sure we can switch it up, what would you like?" It really spoke volumes that even another customer downstairs said *that's why I never go up there, it's...
Read moreI’ve gone here several times, gotten a pizza, and it’s always been just fine, although not as good as the classic Transmetropolitan that it replaced. Today, however, I decided to try their pizza by the slice option and will never go back. I got a slice of plain cheese and a slice with spinach and the plain cheese pizza was hot when it came out, but obviously was cooked a VERY long time ago before I ate it. It tasted like pizza does after it’s been sitting in my fridge for a week. I understand that ordering just a slice means that it will be reheated for you, I order pizza by the slice very frequently at other pizzerias, but the extent to how old this pizza was is crazy. The cheese on the plain cheese pizza was ROCK HARD even though the pizza was steaming hot. And for the slice I ordered with a spinach topping, it was the same pizza but with spinach and an incredible amount of more cheese placed on top, because otherwise the spinach wouldn’t have been cohesive with the rock hard old pizza. Also, I should mention that the slices came out with thin crust. So, this pizza had barely any sauce with a layer of old rock solid cheese, a layer of spinach, and a super thick layer of new cheese.
If this was a super cheap meal I would be forgiving, but with those two slices and tip it costed me $8, which would give me a great (freshly prepared!) meal at a moderately...
