The pizza was very good. Our problem was with service. We were in town for a concert and decided to eat at Little Italy. My brother and his wife were in the order line in front of us. They placed their order and then we placed our order immediately after for the exact same pizza. Their order number was called very shortly after we sat down. My wife and I waited for 20 minutes for our pizza. I went over to the counter and asked if they could check on our order. The young man who was working the register came over, looked around, said āhere it isā then looked at me and said āpizza takes time!ā He then stormed off. His attitude was incredibly rude and self righteous - very much like he was doing us a favor by allowing us to eat in the establishment. To their credit, we spoke with the young lady and young man (assume they were managers) at the front as we were leaving. They were very courteous and apologized for the problem, even offering to provide a free meal in the future. I would definitely eat at this location again. However, if the condescending young man who we dealt with was at the register, I would definitely turn and walk away. If I had thought, I would have taken a picture of this guy and posted it on this site in order to protect future customers from his attitude. Our sincere thanks to the managers who were so courteous and professional while speaking with us. We also offer our condolences to the mangers for having to supervise this guy as part of their...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreLocated in downtown Athens and right across the street from the University of Georgia campus, Little Italy is a popular spot for UGA students. With cheap food, ridiculous hours of operation, and quick service, you could always find a steady flow of people waiting for this greasy Italian fare. On a Saturday evening after a football game or during any other crowded night downtown, you could expect to find a line out the door and no one seemed to mind - I know I never did.
The slices of pizza were enormous - and only cost around $2.50 per slice! It was the classic New York-style thin crust and one slice was bigger than most textbooks. They actually couldn't even fit a slice on one plate, so two plates were used for support. Of course, we'd each order two slices. Full of toppings sprinkled over the top and served at the counter by an angry staff who would cuss you out if you didn't come pick up for your food...this is a truly unique Athens experience. However, we didn't stick to pizza alone. The calzones were excellent and I think I might have liked the meatball sandwich more than anything else on the menu. It was a piping hot sandwich stuffed with meatballs and covered with melted mozzarella cheese - and again, it needed two plates because it was so enormous. This should be incorporated into any recruiting trip for a high schooler who is considering attending UGA. And as a poor college freshman, I don't think I ever spent more than...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis review is for the Athens location only. This was actually the first time I ordered a pizza at Little Italy Athens. It was fantastic. Thin, crispy crust with meat balls and fresh mushrooms. The Athens restaurant does not offer pasta dinners. In the Winder restaurant, the manicotti is good because the sauce is light without compromising flavor.
As Athens is a college town, we encountered a less than desirable hippie chic employee. That did not diminish the food quality. If we had never known the owner, and were not familiar with the quality of the food, the encounter would have been off-putting. The rude dude, pictured, has absolutely no business interacting with people. He started an argument with my sister when she mentioned that her pizza was not made as ordered. Rude dude was insulting and condescending. Honestly, my sister was just ordering her dinner and not applying for a job. No one can read a menu and know everything that is or is not included on a pizza. The cashier, who looked embarrassed, offered my sister a refund. The cashier was great.
This unfortunate encounter does not reflect much in the review. The quality of Little Italy food is exceptional. My advice to anyone is to ask a few questions before finalizing your order. And, if the rude dude is on shift,...
