We were really looking forward to eating at Sweet Lou's, but I hate to say, we won't be back. We ordered several things to go so we could get a feel of the overall menu. It was such a disappointing meal. There were minor issues with a near rotten carrot in my kid's meal and a complete lack of salt or other seasoning in the chicken fried steak gravy as well as several foods getting smashed because of poor stacking in the to go bags. These problems were minor and we would have given the restaurant another shot later on, but then we had some major problems with our food.
Our side of sweet potato fries was undercooked and I don't mean just a little. They were maybe 50% done. The Cuban sandwich was completely inedible with dry pulled pork and the combination of low quality ingredients (ham, Swiss, etc) actually made the sandwich so bad that I threw it away after two bites. The Selkirk nachos have the same pulled pork and it is so dry that your mouth dries out eating a piece of it and you have to wash it down with a drink.
The lobster roll is not real lobster. Maybe it had a tiny amount of real lobster, but 95% was imitation lobster. For the price and the quality of our other meals, we thought maybe it would be langostine instead of real lobster, which while not ideal, is acceptable, but this was just flaked pollock, imitation lobster. It was appallingly bad and we can't fathom why the owners or management would choose to do it other than cutting costs. The substitution was not labeled anywhere, nor were we made aware of it when ordering. Also, this sandwich apparently has tomatoes on it which we were not told when we ordered. We already ordered the Selkirk without tomatoes and the same person ordered the lobster roll, but wasn't told about the tomatoes. Luckily, he isn't allergic to them, but it was a very unpleasant surprise. Having grown up with a family member with anaphalactic allergies, this is absolutely unacceptable to have two changes to a sandwich that are not listed on the menu.
I will say, while we didn't care for the calamari dips, the calamari was very well cooked. Overall though, management and the owners have made some serious missteps that need to be corrected before they end up sued by someone who does have a major allergic reaction to their food. I'm just glad we didn't order the bison ribs or any of the steaks given how poor our...

Read moreI am only giving one star because the foo had great flavor other than the baked potato was overcooked, hard and dry. We were seated right away but took 15 min .to be asked what we wanted to drink. Another 20 min. for our order to be taken. When my salad came 20 min. after that it was brought by someone else with no silverware. The meal arrived aprox. 30 min. after the salad and I had to tell the waitress we needed silverware. The steak was supposed to be 6 oz. it might have been 3 oz. They baked beans were fantastic four all four fork fulls. The steak I got 6 small bites. I saw our waitress 3 times total although she and multiple others were wondering around or standing talking. I had to get up and track down a different waitress to get a to go box for my wife and get the bill. Our waitress showed up as we were leaving asking how everything was I told her I was not impressed and we would not be back. She apologized and said what could she do to make it right and she asked if she could get me a gift certificate. I said no there was no need to come back just to leave hungry again. She said she wanted us to come back and I informed her we would eat elsewhere in the future she informed me not in Athol there was no place else to eat in Athol. I said we won't be back and she responded with did you pay with a card I said no cash so she informed me if I would have paid with a card she would have been able to refund my ticket. But not by paying with cash? $50.00 later lesson learned one of the worse dining experiences I have ever had noisy atmosphere terrible service. I actually had to go to Super 1 and buy something from the deli to get...
