Aurora Coffee was recommended to me by a local to Atlanta. I had ordered the cortado with soy milk without realizing the cortado proportions were different than a standard cortado. I was going to pay for their macchiato (which is half espresso half milk) but the staff gave it to me on the house since I didnāt know the proportions when I ordered the cortado. It was really kind and I would have paid for it.
The macchiato was exactly what I was looking for. More of that espresso flavor coming through balanced with the milk.
For food, I got a vegan walnut banana bread which was delicious.
I also bought a bag of bean from Guatemala to enjoy at home. The staff was friendly with explaining the different flavors and tasting notes of the different coffee beans they had which was super helpful.
The vibe and ambience inside is quite cute. I found it cozy and a little alternative - a perfect mix. Thereās space inside and outside to sit and enjoy coffee and snacks. I also saw several people working from their laptops.
Iād definitely recommend Aurora Coffee! Just be sure to double check the proportions if thatās something...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIāve been coming to Aurora since around 2004 (Mathis, James, Amanda era) when there was another location in Virginia Highlands.
It was so cool to see James still at the helm and still geeking out on coffee. They have never once disappointed. The consistency and genius behind the roasting and dialing-in each day is, hands down, the best coffee in Atlanta.
Since I now live in California, Iām always nervous to go back because I donāt think I could handle it if they ever dropped in quality. Theyāve managed to stay relevant despite all the sugary competition.
This coffee brings me so much joy. As I sat on the patio, I remembered the mid-2000ās guitar jams I would have on the patio when L5P was less yuppie and more hippy/hipster.
Atlanta, please donāt take this gem for granted. Itās gritty, quirky and the baristas have always had a witty attitude. These guys make coffee-making look easy but itās not.
I typically go for either a shot or an iced almond latte. Both are excellent. Auroraās beans have a velvety, chocolaty richness with the perfect amount of acidity that makes it the perfectly balanced,...

So, there I was, just an unsuspecting businessman, in search of some quality espresso in East Atlanta, when I happened upon the Aurora shop. When I got my Americano, it looked great, with the almond-colored foam that's the hallmark of a skilled espresso draw - but then I tasted it, and that changed everything.
Quite simply, it was the best coffee I've ever had - rich and fruity and nutty all at once, and with a unique character that beggars the written word. Nay, not your simple, everyday joe, but a nectar, a forbidden-fruit coffee, a brew unfit for mere mortals such as I. I drank it with a sense of blissful unbelief, and a growing suspicion of foul play.
They're putting something extra in this "coffee," something too good to be legal, at this Aurora joint. Be aware (and enticed ...?).
(Yes, I'm kidding. Aurora is just a good, homey shop in the Little 5 Points cloister, with some exceptionally good coffee and equally good folks, all of which I am...
