I went today thinking that it would be better to wait until after the grand opening to come so that the restaurant would be able to sort through any issues, training, etc. However, I was wrong. We came in at 12:05PM and didn’t put in our order until 12:45PM. The line was not long (maybe 10 people) but they took a long time to get the orders in and then their POS broke so they stopped taking orders. Which may have been a good thing so that they could catch up with the orders in the kitchen. We were the first to order after the POS came back up. At first the food started coming out pretty quick since like I said before they got caught up on their orders while their POS was down. But then at 1:05PM, we were still waiting on two dishes. The cucumber salad, which in my opinion should’ve been one of the first things to come out and our shangai soup dumpling. Keep in mind, we had 3 orders of it. 2 pork, 1 chicken. We were still waiting on the 1 pork… which is odd since the other order already came out and so many people that came after us had theirs already. We saw people that ordered after us but were done and leaving but we still hadn’t gotten our last two items. We had to go up twice to get the last items. It finally came out at 1:22PM.. I think the staff needs to be more on track with their orders. They looked confused and seemed like they forgot about items again each time we went up. I know some others were also waiting for their remaining items to come out too. I’m pretty sure they just forgot about ours and gave the items to other tables. We also considered asking for a refund on those items so that we could leave. The place was insanely hot, we were already irritated about the long wait and food not coming out, the heat didn’t help. Also, their condiments basket on the table was disgusting. It looks like they don’t wipe it every night or morning. It was so sticky on the outside. Next, the food was terrible. Frozen store bought food from the grocery store taste better. The only thing we liked we the potsticker. The fried rice tasted like white rice - no taste at all. The thick noodles consisted 80% of onions and cabbage with barely any meat and noodles. It was also tasteless. The bun and steamed dumpling were pretty bland and the dough was so thick and mushy - over steamed. The shangai soup dumpling dough was the same and the soup inside was very salty with no flavor besides that. Our overall experience was terrible and I will not be back. With all the issues they could’ve at least given a discount or provided like a free soda fountain drink. I’ve read some other reviews and saw that some people say it’s good or too salty… it seems like their quality control is lacking and the service, food, experience ranges widely depending on when you go… my friends went yesterday and also had a terrible experience. Had I known about their experience, I would have tried a different place instead of wasting my time driving 50minutes 1 way to try this place in Atlanta. They need to work on many...
Read moreMy kiddo has been obsessing about dumplings & I saw this in a random FB video. So glad I saved the address!! You order at the counter & either the host/server brings your items or the robot will deliver your dishes, even if it's a bag of items To Go! Drinks are cans & bottles: a mix of American or Asian options (coke, sprite, diet coke, coconut water, Ramune sodas, etc). For seating there's booths, half booth/half table & high tops available. Once you order you're able to sit wherever you like & the host/cashier just makes a note of it because the robot came right to us with all of the correct items! A water machine is self-serve with a spot to pick up whatever utensils you prefer (fork, chopsticks, soup spoons, etc) as well as extra side plates & napkins. Once you're done, there's a spot for you to place your trash & plates for them to wash. She was very quick to wipe & clean the tables as soon as people left so it was very clean! There's only about 10-12 tables able to hold groups of 4-10 or possibly more if you were to push some together. But it doesn't seem that many people sit & "hangout" after eating. The service is a little different, in that a dish is brought out as soon as it's ready! So you may get your pot stickers first & then a noodle plate will come out 2nd & a rice plate will come 3rd. You can tell everything is made with fresh ingredients & made to order! It means the food is great but if you're in a group with different orders, some of you may be seated watching a friend eat for 5 minutes before your dish arrives. Not a bad thing, but something to know so it's not your "typical" restaurant/eatery.
We wanted to try every style of dumpling so we ordered one from each section (total of 3) then I asked for her favorite item from the dumpling options. So we got a total of 4 orders. We weren't able to eat the last 3 dumplings but all were SO good!!! The dough to filling ratio was spot on & the flavors were fantastic! We ordered the soup dumplings (her recommendation), chicken & corn, beef & carrot, & the pork & chive. They each came out within about 4-6 minutes of each other with the last (large pork & chive you'll see pictured) as maybe 10 minutes after we received the last pot stickers. Needless to say, we will definitely be back! I forgot to take pictures of the menu so I'll try & update my review when I get my hands on it...no telling where my...
Read moreI was very excited to have a place affiliated with the Northern Chinese Eatery closer than the one on Bufford, as we love dumplings! Unfortunately, this place didn't make the cut, and we won't go back. We were the fourth group in line to order that day. We ordered 4 things, a thick noodles dish, two kinds of steamed dumplings, and buns, all on one ticket. The noodles arrived first, within less than 10 minutes: thumbs up. They were fine taste-wise, but they were definitely overcooked and mushy: thumbs down. We also weren't expecting a dish with rice noodles, but with wheat noodle. That was on us, though. We should have asked. Also, there were pieces of meat that were barely cooked long enough: thumbs down. The three other items then came over the course of 30 minutes: two thumbs down. The dumplings that we had ordered steamed because we like them that way arrived in a little pool of water, so they had been boiled, not steamed: thumbs down. The pork dumplings tasted weird, with a slightly metallic aftertaste, so we didn't finish them: thumbs down. The other kind was good (thumbs up) despite being very mushy from having been boiled too long: thumbs down. The pan-fried buns were terrible, almost burnt at the bottom, and the filling was very mushy and funky tasting: two thumbs down. We didn't eat them. Overall, there are too many thumbs down for us to consider coming back, unfortunately. We're disappointed because we really wanted to like...
