I visited Hattie B’s by accident. I was visiting ATL and specifically Little Five Points when I got hungry and started driving down Moreland Ave. I spotted Hattie B’s and thought I’d give it a shot. I had no idea about the concept of “Hot Chicken”, what world have I been living in. Since I had no expectations based on no previous knowledge, I walked in with a open mind but not very hopeful as to not get let down. The restaurant and restrooms were clean. Attention to the restrooms says a lot about the restaurant and the rest of the dining experience. The staff was very pleasant especially the young handsome guy that came around to make certain that everything was ok including removing my tray from the table (side note: comment about the young handsome guy is exceptional in my experience in the area). It was also pleasant because the outdoor waitstaff is providing this service without expectation of a tip. A definite + in my book. Once again, speaks to the culture of the restaurant. I’ll pay more for service than food which leads to me to the important subject of how great the food was. I ordered 2pc white or 1/4 white can’t remember how it was worded on menu. I didn’t get it spicy or hot. The chicken was fried to a golden crust and perfectly seasoned. Just YUM! It has not been my experience to see the wing still attached to breast with fried chicken. In a way, I feel like it subtracts from being a 2 piece but at the same time probably added to it being so juicy. When you find a juicy white meat, you’ve found a jewel. Hattie B serves this jewel. I had the pimento Mac and Cheese and Red Skin Potato Salad as my side. The Mac n Cheese is not what I expected from a southern establishment but definitely wasn’t box Mac n Cheese either. Now that Red Skin Potato Salad, all I can say is Mmm Mmm good. That’s my description. If it wasn’t so many carbs, I’d taken another to go but the helping that came with the meal was worth every carb and then some. Warning to the vegans, it does have bacon in it but it’s so good maybe a vegan should turn their head just for once. LOL. Seriously, this was a top rated dining experience at a fried chicken joint on the patio along Moreland Ave. who’da thunk it? :). I definitely recommend Hattie B’s and will be back again. Note to Hattie B’s: I’m always concerned about giving 5 star ratings based on a one time visit. Please keep up the standard and don’t make a liar as my reputation as a reviewer is as much on the line as yours as a service provider. Kudos to you on a...
Read moreA fairly new Tennessee transplant in ATL!
Went for a really late lunch during the week and the line was out the door but definitely don't let that discourage you as they have room for only about 6-8 people between the door and the counter.
The Parking: There's LIMITED parking behind the restaurant, but they'll probably be taken. Next to Hattie B's is a gravel parking lot that you can pay to park. On the off ramp close to Fox Bros. BBQ are free parking spots on the side of the street.
The menu was actually smaller than I thought it would be, but everything sounded delicious. The food took about 20 minutes to come out - even with the line out the door, they seemed to be cooking the chicken to order - perhaps not the most efficient thing to do, but I found it admirable as its always served fresh
What we ordered:
Three levels of "hot" to choose from: Mild, Hot, & Damn Hot.
-HOT Chicken sandwich: Topped with Coleslaw and Nashville Comeback Sauce ($9). This meal comes with one side, which ended up being mac n cheese for me. Three levels of heat to choose from: Mild, hot and damn hot. As a South Asian myself, "Damn Hot" was actually way too hot for me so if you're not accustomed to it, definitely don't take this light lol! But the sandwich is def THE BEST.
-Fried Chicken: Small order (1 breast, 1 wing) in "hot", and a small order (1 thigh, 1 leg) "damn hot". The hot one had spice that was just noticeable - if you have ever had Gus's fried chicken in Memphis, it was about like this. Juicy, tender, very well cooked yet extremely flavorful. Even after being a South Asian and my tolerance for spice, "damn hot" was way too hot for me, can't taste any flavor because its mouth burning right from the first bite- not recommended.
-The pimento mac and cheese and the cole slaw for our sides. The cole slaw was creamy enough. The pimento mac and cheese was good - it was have-your-tongue-apologize-to your-arteries good.
pro tip have the fried chicken with ranch or honey mustard, def has a kick to it.
LOVE this place! Will definitely be back whenever I'm around downtown/Little...
Read moreWifey found this restaurant and I had to come here like I had a choice. Anyways, we came here the night before Thanksgiving. The first impression about the location I was pretty happy as they have quite good inside and outside seating. Second thing that impressed me was that they marked their menu items with a Asterisk which has Pork in it, so it was nice for people who don’t like to consume Pork. Third, the staff was super cool, friendly and helpful. We were greeted by Patrick (who is an awesome guy, loved his hospitality) and when I was not sure which spicy level I like to go with he offered us samplers for both spicy levels. I have never had that experience in a fast food restaurant. Till this part they already had my respect, tip and 5 stars.
Now let’s come to the food as the food is King. We ordered Chicken Sandwiches, half fried chicken, wings and tenders. The star of show was Fried Chicken for us. The Sandwitches were good but I am more of a dark meat guy so white meat is not for me, but if you are white meat person, definitely it’s a great chicken sandwich. The Wings were big enough that my 10 year old was only able to eat 2. Tenders were good as well.
About the spicy level, I thought to go with Shut the Guck Up but it was too much for me, so I went with one level above it. The spice level is crazy for be careful with it.
Overall the experience was great, it seems like we found a good restaurant coming back again and again.
