I recently dined at Houston's on Northside Pkwy and unfortunately, I had a very disappointing experience. My daughter was wearing a basic non-athletic jersey and was asked at the hostess stand if she had another shirt on underneath. My daughter did not, so they asked her to place her rain jacket covering the shirt because jerseys are not allowed, although that is not displayed in their dress code policy. As we sat waiting for our server the manager reminded her that she needed to keep her rain jacket on to comply with the restaurants policies. As other patrons continued to come in the restaurant we noticed several customers who were also not complying with the same policy and were allowed to dine without being told to remove their hats or cover up their hoodies/athletic gear.
After pulling up the dress code policy on the website and reading the "Attire Standards" card located at the hostess stand, I asked to speak with the General Manager, Jordan Herbert. I expressed to Jordan our frustration and that there was nothing written in their policy that included non-athletic attire style jerseys. He explained that there are gray areas and that it is up to management to determine what is allowable. As we stood on the side of the hostess stand having this conversation, we observed more customers coming in who were not asked to remove their hats nor cover their team logo sweat shirts.
This experience left us feeling targeted, discriminated against and disrespected. It is unacceptable that the restaurant is not enforcing its own policies in a consistent and fair manner. As paying customers, we should all be treated with respect and dignity. A manager should never state that there are "gray" areas and it is up to the staff to determine who fits into an approved or unapproved category, especially when it is brought to the attention that several consumers were violating the specific written dress code policies.
I must say this was very disappointing to see that the restaurant is willing to overlook its own policies to accommodate certain customers while discriminating against others. This sends a clear message that some customers are more valued than others. More importantly, this is not the first time that we have heard of Houston's enforcing their policies for some of their patrons, but not all of them.
We live in Atlanta, the home of 5 major sports teams. This restaurant is literally 8 minutes away from where the Braves play at Truist Park. I can't imagine that after a major home game that Houston's would turn away fans just because they are wearing a Brave's jersey. If this is the case then we seriously need to rethink the types of restaurants that we patronize in our city. Possibly this is why they do not have "jersey" language in their dress code policy, but according to Jordan it falls in a "gray" area.
I do not recommend this restaurant to anyone. The experience left a very bad impression on me and I will not be returning. I urge the restaurant management to take steps to ensure that all policies are enforced consistently and fairly. Discrimination of any kind should not be tolerated in any...
Read moreOur recent visit to Houston’s Restaurant (at 3539 Northside Pkwy NW, Atlanta, GA, 30327) was nothing short of phenomenal—a perfect setting for a memorable birthday celebration. My husband and I were delighted from the moment we stepped in on the evening of Saturday, October 26, 2024, to celebrate my special day. The ambiance was both lively and elegantly inviting, setting the tone for a truly avant-garde dining experience.
Service was seamless, as we received our entrées within an impressive eighteen minutes of our being seated, allowing us to relax, chat, and soak up the restaurant’s warm, sophisticated atmosphere without a hitch.
I indulged in the Hawaiian Ribeye, a culinary marvel cooked to a flawless medium-rare. Every bite was pure satisfaction—the steak was perfectly marbled, succulent, and bursting with that unmistakable fusion of savory and sweet flavors only a skilled chef could achieve. The slightly charred, caramelized exterior paired with the tender, juicy inside was absolute bliss, while warm notes of ginger and pineapple danced in my head;) Alongside it, the skillet beans—baked in a luscious, thick, sweet sauce—were the unsung heroes of the meal. I believe there were onions and bits of turkey meat contributing to their rich, smoky, and decadent sweetness, with a flavor profile that was both robust and smooth.
My husband, a steak aficionado, opted for the New York Strip cooked medium-well. This substantial cut was beautifully seasoned and seared to perfection, striking a balance between a slightly crisp outer layer and tender, juicy insides. And then there was the giant, loaded baked potato—a masterpiece on its own. Fluffy and warm, this indulgent side was piled high with the creamiest of sour creams, cheese that melted into every crevice, and a perfect amount of green onions for a fresh, savory bite. It was the epitome of comfort and richness in one. So, salt was not even required to complete its picture.
For drinks, my husband ordered an Old Fashioned. A true classic with a serious kick, he was thrilled with its full-bodied flavor and generous pour, remarking that he’d certainly “got his money’s worth” on that spirited delight.
Houston’s (Northside Pkwy) Atlanta location has certainly set the bar high for service, atmosphere, and culinary mastery. We adore this location in particular, not only for the exceptional food but also for its exemplary staff, who seamlessly blend multicultural competence with warmth and professionalism, making every visit a pleasure. This is the kind of dining experience that stays with you long after you’ve left the table.
Thank you Atlanta’s Houston’s Northside Pkwy NW in 30327 for a most memorable...
Read moreI am an advid Houston's diner at both locations here in Atlanta. My dining experience at the Northside drive location on 11/16/2022 was less than satisfactory.
I was seated at the bar by the door, so I was cold my entire stay. The bartender whose name was Jenna was not good. She asked me for my ID & snatched my passport out of my hand...how rude. She portrayed like she could not find my birth date. When she gave me my ID back, she took my order as if she wanted me to leave the bar area expeditiously.
I order the smoked salmon, a side of broccoli, and the focaccia to eat in. To go I ordered the ribs with creamed corn & skillet beans. When my brocolli arrived, it was cold & not seasoned at all. Yuck! I gave the bartender my brocolli back, explaining that it was not flavorful & I've had better tasting broccoli. She gave me a nasty look with her eyes.
I continued to eat my focaccia & smoked salmon. The olives that accompanied the focaccia was not good either. I quickly packed it to go.
I decided to order a burger to eat instead because I was still hungry. As I got Jenna's attention & told her I would like to order the burger with fries, she quickly responded with, "fries are unable to be ordered to go," I had to correct her & let her know that the burger was an entree to be eaten in the restaurant. I ordered all the garnishes on the side.
After ordering my burger, I was now down to an empty glass of water. The people sitting next to me were too. Jenna filled their water glass & passed over me. I had to ask for more water.
When my burger arrived, I was missing my cheese. I asked the server who brought me my food who provides me with ketchup, mustard, & seasoning for my burger. He responded with, "the bar staff."
Needless to say, I had to ask for ketchup, mustard, & seasoning when I know from frequently visiting Houston's that those condiments should have been before me prior to my entree arriving.
Additionally, I was missing my cheese from the burger. When it was brought to me, it was ice cold. The bartender also failed to give me cutlery to eat my food.
This experience at the Northside Drive location was not a exceptional one.
I was disappointed with this Houston's and I will not be coming here again.
Lastly, the bartender tried to put everything on me. Unexpectable & incorrect. The general manager Jordan had the nerve to approach me & give me her version of my experience. All BS! For that reason, I recommend no one in the Atlanta area to frequent this Houston's location....
