I visited Spice House Midtown on a Saturday night as my second stop of the evening after noticing they had live music. Iām familiar with the Lithonia location but had never been to this one, so I was excited to check it out. Surprisingly, I was able to make a reservation just 45 minutes before arrivingāa 10:45 p.m. reservation for three during a girls' night out.
Upon arriving, I noticed that valet parking was $10, which isnāt terrible, but considering the parking lot is directly attached to the restaurant, it felt unnecessary to charge patrons to park there. What made it even more confusing was that when I was ready to leave, the valet simply handed me my keysābecause my car was literally parked right in front of the booth. While thatās great for accessibility, I could have just parked and retrieved my own car without the extra charge.
As soon as I walked in, I was greeted and promptly seated in a nice booth facing the bar. Aaron was our server for the evening, and let me just sayāhe was fantastic. He was super accommodating, provided excellent customer service, and truly made it feel like I was catching dinner with a friend rather than just being served at a restaurant. From now on, whenever I come back, Iāll definitely be requesting Aaronās section.
The live band was amazing. They had the crowd moving and played a melody of songs for about 30 to 45 minutes straight, which really set the vibe for the night.
I ordered a French 75, which was pretty decent, along with a side of macaroni and cheese that was cheesy, flavorful, and well-seasoned. Aaron also gave us a little background on the executive chef, who is Jamaican, which adds to the authenticity of the Caribbean flavors on the menu. My friend ordered the turkey wings with black rice, and I tried a bite of the riceāit was really good.
Now, letās talk about the fees. While the hookah was advertised as $45, my receipt showed it as $40 for the hookah plus a separate $5 hookah fee. I donāt really understand why places break up pricing like this instead of just listing it as $45 outright. It would make way more sense to just give customers a cohesive price instead of tacking on random feesāespecially when the bill is for hookah only.
There was also a $15 entertainment fee per person. I do appreciate that the hostess informed me of this fee before seating us, so I was aware of it and didnāt mind paying. I just want to mention it so others know to expect it when they visit.
Overall, I really enjoyed the experience at this locationāway more than the Lithonia one. Even though they have the same exact menu, Midtown delivered better food presentation, superior customer service, and an overall smoother experience. I definitely plan on coming back in the next couple of weeks for a particular DJ, and you can bet Iāll be making sure Iām sitting in...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI was dying to try this restaurant ever since I saw Spice post it on her IG. I live in Massachusetts so knowing I was going to ATL for my son's graduation I booked this restaurant before any other. WORST EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE!
I couldn't tell you how the food is as the bad service prevented that.
I arrived at 8.02 pm for my 8 pm reservation. Upon arriving I was told they are overbooked and I will have to wait 30mins. Ok. no problem it happens. We were escorted to our table at around 8:20. After 10mins of waiting for a menu or even a waitress to show- I got up and got 4 menus for the table. We sat there for about 11 mins before the waitress sauntered over. She apologized stating it was pretty busy. We ordered 4 ginger beers, a rum punch, and 3 appetizers.
31mins later, 2 of our 3 apps arrived, and still no drinks. The waitress came over about 3 mins later to ask if we need anything. We stated- utensils would be nice as well as our drinks- she explained the bar is so backed up from the bartender making drinks. I said- but the ginger beers are in bottles... she mumbled something about the bartender having to give it to her. We also told her we are missing an app. She left to get us utensils. She must have gone the long way as we were waiting another 3-5 mins and had to flag down the food manager- or I think that's what he was, to ask for the last app and utensils. We also mentioned- we have still waiting on our drinks.
Someone else brought the last app and the mgr returned with utensils and 2 glasses of water- Did I mention there are 4 ppl at the table!?!?!?... he said he would be right back with our drinks ... he returned with the ginger beers-. At this point, the waitress has not returned... The food manager came over at least twice to apologize. I explained we still have not ordered dinner. One person didn't order an app so really needed to order dinner.
Another 30mins and now I am just annoyed. We have not ordered dinner and have been in the restaurant for close to 2 hours- finally, we saw the waitress and flagged her down. I explained I am leaving and I do not intend on paying for the food. My app got cold while I waited for utensils.
She went to get the actual manager who, as I am leaving, was talking with her and the food manager, who then asked- what's wrong?
SERIOUSLY?!?!?!?
This is absolutely not the way to run a business. I don't mind having a leisurely meal but to do so, I need to have a meal or at least utensils to do so.
This was an EXTREMELY...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI was staying in Midtown Atlanta for a work trip. I flew in Saturday the 26th of March, checked into my hotel and immediately left to get dinner. This is a struggle for me since I suffer from Gastroparesis so I usually try to find a local establishment to reduce the about of additives that I have problems with after eating. We saw the Spice House and decided to stop. The dining room was very nice and had a good comfortable atmosphere. After looking at the menu I decided that I would try the Island Seafood Dip and the Creole Turkey wings. The dip was very good and paired great with the chips that were provided. There was an issue with the 2 orders of turkey wings as we were informed that it would be at least an hour since they were still making them. Since I was not in a hurry and we had the time to spare we chose to wait. While we were waiting we ordered the Curry Coconut Shrimp. The curry flavor was subtle and excellent and the coconut shrimp were crisp and tender. Then after a wait, our Creole Turkey wings arrived and at first glance, I was impressed. I was more impressed when I stuck my fork into the wing and easily pulled out a piece of meat because it was so tender. The Creole flavor was very unique to me and absolutely wort the wait and the side of black rice was amazing too. While we were waiting we watched the bar manager making a large container of a pinkish drink. I asked our waitress what it was and I was told "Rum punch" we were provided a sample shot and I am not much of a drinker but it was probably the strongest/best tasting mixed drink I have ever had and it was very potent. I cannot recommend Spice House enough, great food awesome people. I will definitely come back the next time I...
