Cute little coffee shop off of Dekalb. I only had coffee, which was good. I would consider going back another time to grab a bite.
The parking at the building is sparse, but you can also park on Edgewood and further down Hurt. I was there mid-morning on a weekday, so I imagine it would be more difficult during busier hours.
The place was cute, and very hipster and industrial feeling. If you lived nearby, it could be a nice place to sit for a while. I'm not sure if I would consider it cozy enough to want to work at for a few hours. The chairs do not look comfortable, and it is kind of loud due to the layout.
When you first walk in, there's a huge island to lean on and stand at, but you order at the counter to the right. The menus themselves were at the island thing right in front of the door, rather than at the register. So, I walked to the register to order, then was told the menus were at the island thing I had already passed. There were also people standing there waiting and drinking coffes, so I had to ask for them to move in order to get to the menus. It did not make any sense.
Aside of the atmosphere and the odd menu location, the biggest reason I gave them a 3 is because of the price of the coffee. I got an iced latte with almond milk. It was a $0.75 upcharge, which I get, because it is more expensive. I genuinely am lactose intolerant and will get sick if I drink it, so I have been paying for the dairy free stuff for a while. However, it was $6.42 before the tip. I am not sure if you can tell from the pictures, but it is a tiny coffee. It was a good coffee, but it was a tiny coffee. With a tip, I ended up paying almost $8 for my tiny, dairy free iced coffee. Maybe I'm wrong, but I just feel like if I pay that much at other places, I'm usually getting a the larger size.
If I do come here again, I will try some food. That seems to be more of the focus for the Daily, given the review commentary on lack of wifi. However, I would not be coming here regularly for my coffee fix based...
Read moreI have always enjoyed my visits to The Daily and have often recommended it to others for its great coffee and inviting atmosphere. However, today's experience left me feeling both disappointed and humiliated. Halfway through my breakfast, I was asked to move to another table to accommodate another customer. I had been seated for about 15 minutes, and prior to starting my meal, I spoke with the server, who made no mention of any special seating rules.
The server explained that on weekends, customers dining alone are required to sit at specific tables--something I was not informed of when I sat down. As a woman of color, I try to be a rule follower and comply with any known policies because I know we are often held to a higher standard, especially when we are in the minority. I happened to be one of only two customers of color in the cafe, which added insult to injury. I suggested that they notify customers of their seating rules before seating them, and while the server agreed and offered me a fresh cup of coffee, the damage was already done.
This experience was unsettling and left me feeling disrespected. I hope The Daily reconsiders how they communicate their seating policies in the future, so that no one else has to experience the same discomfort and...
Read moreUpdate: I came in again at invitation for a better experience and I have to say it did not disappoint. The avocado toast was delish and fresh, seasoned perfectly. I also brought my friend for her first visit. She got the grain avocado bowl and it was also very good. The coffees we had were rose cardamom and cinnamon brown sugar and I have to say the house made syrups really make these drinks superb! Also got the feta toast again and the sweet, savory, salty combination is quite literally perfect. Service was fast and friendly!
Cute cafe, specialty drink upside down latte is really good! I hope they keep it around. Food plate portions are small for the price so i stick with the toasts. Whipped feta toast is great but i recently tried the avocado toast and i was served a toast with avocado that had oxidized across the entire top. Are you prepping a TOAST ahead of time and serving brown avocado? You can clearly see the bright green when i slid my finger through it. This place is not cheap and to not even make toast to order is diabolical.. you cant really call it toast anyhow because the bread isn't toasted ?? Its all soft and mushy from the topping being sat on it for...
