Me and my sweetheart stayed here for a Valentine's staycation. The inn is appropriately named because the place has a real Sugarbaker-like (as in the old TV show Designing Women) charm. Multiple wraparound porches, a real magnolia tree in the yard with a nearby meditation bench, a wooden spiral staircase, and rocking chairs; and that's just the exterior. Inside is a treasure trove of old southern artifacts blended with art, photography, music and culture. One could easily lounge in the living area for hours, sipping tea, listening to the owner's very impressive collection of jazz, classical and soul tunes. The coffee table books of the innkeepers' very own photography is impressive and is another hint of the owners' apparent appreciation of nature and humanity in general. Me and my lady were late to breakfast (a real southern taboo) but the owner kindly dashed into the kitchen to whip up delicious Belgian waffles. We stayed in the royal room, decorated in every shade of blue including royal. The ceiling had an interesting and really cozy concave and was outlined in a country linen curtain. The bath area was my lady's favorite feature with it's relaxing tub encircled in candles and foliage. Before we left she had already made plans to come back for a solo retreat for rejuvenation. The b-n-b has been around over 20 years... Apparently plenty of time for the owner's to think of every little detail. We loved every minute of this stay. The only less than appealing moment was the tub water did not run hot for long. It became tepid rather quickly. Other than that, it was really warm and...

My best friend and I were in town for an event at the center of puppetry arts. We considered staying in a hotel but due to inflated event prices this was the cheapest option (other than a less than good looking motel). Absolutely the right decision to stay here.
It's far enough out of the city we had to rideshare downtown but there were wonderful shops and eateries in walking distance that were all incredible!
Above any of that though we experienced southern hospitality from the most kind staff ever from inn keeper to housekeeper to owner. Such sweet ladies that truly were a joy to meet! There was delicious breakfast every morning, and they even accommodated to a vegan diet.
The estate was clean, beautiful, decorative, and truly a step back in time (except the plumbing we had the best giant jet tub/shower it was awesome). My inner photographer was absolutely giddy about all the nooks and crannies of the house and garden. The plants are incredible to look at and smell sweet as can be. Bug spray was provided for us staying at the cottage suite behind the main house which was helpful!
You can stay at a hotel anywhere. But the Sugar Magnolia is a uniquely Georgian experience that will remain a wonderful...
Read more(June 2025) - I returned from my second trip to ATL, and as as a two-time guest at Sugar Magnolia. I decided on this trip, that a few days at Sugar Magnolia and a warm hug from Kathryn (the Innkeeper), atleast once a year is necessary just to reboot. Kathryn makes you feel like you are home - my room is always spotless and the common areas are just so inviting. Overall, it is an atmosphere of relaxation and warmth.
(May 2024) I received a welcome message from the Innkeeper, Kathryn, before boarding my flight down to Atlanta. She provided me with some basic instructions that I would need upon my arrival and concluded her note asking if I had any dietary restrictions or was a coffee or tea girl. It is small details like that, which make all the difference. The following day, she single-handedly prepared breakfast for 7 guests (including me), and somehow managed to keep the flow of conversation going. Kathryn was readily available and very responsive via text messaging and just so sweet. I will most definitely be going back, if only to chat with Kathryn. She is a gem and made my stay at this historic and lovely B&B,...
