Idle Hour Biergarten — Restaurant in Atlantic Beach

If you're gonna cram that many tables in a space with a kitchen the size of a walk-in closet, you better be running a NASCAR pit crew—not a restaurant. I walked past the kitchen and immediately wanted to start a GoFundMe for the chef, because she was haulin’ ass like her life depended on it. Girl was out there performing culinary miracles on May 3rd.

That said… it took 45 minutes just to get our drinks. Not even the fun kind of “we’re vibing” 45 minutes. More like, “do we live here now?” vibes. Turns out there’s ONE bartender trying to serve what felt like half the damn county.

We got our appetizer an hour in, and our main course arrived after another 30-minute stretch of questioning our life choices. But let me be clear: the food? Absolutely slapped. Chef deserves a trophy, a raise, and possibly a cape. I had the beer cheese fries with carne asada and the sauces on top? Pure sorcery. Flavors were immaculate. Not a single complaint on the food side.

Now the Strawberry Margarita? Bless its heart—it tasted like someone whispered the word “strawberry."

Would I go again? Yes. But I’m bringing snacks for the wait and maybe a thank-you card...

By far the worst restaurant experience that I have ever had. For years I served, bartended and even managed a restaurant and I told myself that I would never be this person but our experience at this place was beyond bad, it was cringe worthy. From start to finish everything just went from bad to worse. Our server forgot that we hadn't order yet and then messed up multiple orders once we finally did. Our appetizer came out after our meals, which came out one at a time over the course of 30 minutes if they even arrived at all. By the time we left, at least 4 different people had come out and promised to fix the problem just for us to be told that they had all "forgotten". We were the only people at this place which not only made it awkward but also hard to understand. They did nothing for us when we asked for some kind of explanation. We all left after an hour an a half completely upset and unsatisfied, we had to go to another restaurant to get food since some of us never even got our food and the food that we did get was cold. Unfortunately Idle hour’s service and food were a disappointment. We chose idle because it is a dog friendly restaurant in a nice area right by the beach. The outside seating is inviting with the fire pits , sand and live music. I ordered the mahi tacos , they lacked flavor. I’ve had better seafood inland North Carolina which I think is odd. My friend ordered the shrimp burger, we were expecting a patty but it came with actual pieces of fried shrimp and they were ok. My sister ordered the chicken sandwich but they didn’t have the chicken to make it so she got wings instead. We had to remind the waitress of the drinks we ordered and I got handed the wrong drink once. The waitresses were not very organized. I also got a margarita that wasn’t good . When we received our digital bill I made sure to ask if the chicken switch was adjusted and I was told it was so I paid. However it wasn’t until I insisted on getting my receipt was it discovered I was charged for the chicken sandwich as well as the wings. The waitress corrected it.
