What a great experience! As someone who’s been in this industry for 20 years, this is an awesome concept for Mayport and Jacksonville.
The vibe is a perfect modern take on the escapism that people want with these drinks. From the minute you walk through the gate, MGC sets the stage for the experience that awaits. The dimly lit, intimate interior is the perfect backdrop for date night or an outing with a small group of friends.
The classic cocktails are a great homage to traditional, tropical style cocktails and the signatures are all inventive and delicious. Creating all of these drinks within the parameters of the concept is incredibly impressive and kudos to the person that created the menu. Creating a menu is easy when you can order whatever you need, but also making the cordials is pretty outstanding. From the glassware to the garnish, you can tell every detail was well thought out. I suggest trying the Seven Mile Swizzle or the PanDang! The pandan and macadamia nut in the PanDang is something I won’t soon forget.
Mayport Garden Club is such an excellent experience for anyone looking to try something new. Reservations are hard to come by so definitely try and book your spot when you can. Pro tip, don’t forget to grab a pizza while you’re there, easily the best pizza in...
Read moreAmazing place. Recently had a chance to check out the mgc and it was a phenomenal experience. The entrance is unique - quickly makes you forget it’s basically in a strip mall. Really makes you feel like you’re somewhere special and isolated. The decor inside is tikiesque, to create a word- but the attention to detail really stands out. This carries over to the drinks- there are no corners cut. Tiki is tough to make original, but the staff here has really done an outstanding job of creatively making very interesting drinks and serving them in unique ways. The team is very passionate about what they are doing- and that comes out in the experience. If you genuinely love a good cocktail and trying something new that someone really put time and thought into- this is the place. The food comes from a nearby restaurant and was excellent too- it gets delivered from there to you directly which was kind of neat. Alexis was mixing drinks the night we were there and is equal parts mixologist / historian / and mad scientist. Great perspective on where the ideas come from and how they make so much of what they serve in house. If you are into cocktails at all…...
Read moreGreat idea, bad execution. Too tiny, too expensive, terrible set up, bad bartending service.
The bathrooms are by the front door hitting people as you come out and wall-seated customers directly across from the bathrooms having to smell others excrements.
Charging $15 average for almost every drink with the bartender filling the glasses only 3/4 with alcohol (including the $22 big bowl drink) the rest with lots and lots of ice.
All of us agreed this was not a good experience overall, and we will not be coming back or recommending to anyone.
Good things about our experience were: our server was extremely nice, the flavors of the cocktails are superb, and the Pesto was the best I've ever had that came with the $8 bread.
Tips of advice: call a plumber and move the bathrooms to the back, invest in separate menus with a small blacklight so people can read the food menu, lower your drink prices between $8-$10 and the big bowl drink to $15, and train your bartender's not to rip off patrons who are apparently paying for more ice...
