I had a gift card for the 99 and decided to stop in for lunch. I would never typically decide to go here, but since I had a free lunch, I figured I'd go for it.
I ended up ordering for takeaway since there is nothing on the menu that my wife can eat, and found the process of completing my order online to be very easy. When I arrived, I just tapped the "I'm here" button and my food arrived.
In, out, done. I love it when things are easy.
I got a 3 course meal - clam chowder, the fancier/more stuff on it cheeseburger (I believe it was called The Allstar Burger) with coleslaw and loaded mashed potatoes, and the Oreo Cookie dessert.
The chowder was tasty. Not the best I've had by a long shot, but creamy and tasty. A little pepper wakes it up a bit, but it is firmly in the okay category.
The burger was good. Perfectly acceptable, it was done as requested and had a bevvy of toppings that enhanced the flavour instead of dominating it. If you have ever had a burger from a chain restaurant like Outback or Applebee's, you pretty much know what to expect.
The coleslaw was weak, but not ghastly. I would have been better off with probably any other side.
The potato was a highlight for me. It basically tasted like a twice baked potato with cheddar and such toppings. It was the most unique and outstanding part of the meal.
The Oreo cookie dessert.
You know it is bad when I start with just the name of a dish and let it sit out there like that. It was an oreo cookie cake with some whipped cream on it and I'm pretty sure some chocolate drizzle.
It did not travel well.
I put it in the freezer when I got home, but it was far too late. The cake was chocolatey and rich, and the Oreo Cookie was an Oreo which is something I love and haven't had in ages. I can't help but think how much better it would have been if it was fresh at the table vs taken as takeout. I'd have rather seen a whipped frosting for a takeaway dessert instead of cream that stands no chance of getting home.
So, altogether I'd say that it wasn't a disappointment, but it wasn't exactly inspiring. It was average, which is what you kinda want with a chain restaurant - dependable food with familiar flavor profiles that comfort rather than challenge.
Would I come back?
Nah. I prefer TGI Friday's for a chain burger, and there are dozens of other burgers I'd like to get that aren't chains. There was little else on the menu that I found appealing, though I was slightly curious about the chicken pot pie.
Long and short: an average place for average food. It is easy to order online and the service is swift. If you see something on the menu that you want, chances are you will be satisfied with what you order, but take caution if getting dessert...
Read moreI normally avoid chain restaurants because I would rather support family/ local businesses whenever possible. But it was Friday at 630pm and every place else was packed so we ended up here. I have to say that I was surprised at how good the quality and pricing was! It was crowded for sure but most people waiting were a party of two so since there were 3 of us it was than 5 minutes before our table was ready . Started out with stuffed tater tots as an appetizer. They came in a small basket bout the size of a coffee cup and had a horseradish dipping sauce which was superb. They were stuffed with cheese and crispy on outside. Wife had a wedge salad which she enjoyed. Lettuce was fresh but not drowning in dressing and had ample bacon bits. Also had the clam chowder which was tasty and had plenty of clams in it. Side salad was also very fresh. I ordered the fish tacos which were breaded, fried and crispy fish with pico and an incredible aioli on them. Very impressed with those since it is very easy for the fish to get soggy with both pico and aioli mixed in. They have a full bar (obviously) but lack in beer selection, especially craft brews. So I washed everything down with a couple Ketel One Martinis and left there with a smile...
Read moreMy husband and I went there on Sunday, December 4th and we had the WORST experience. I typically LOVE the 99, honestly it is one of my go to places for something quick and easy. However, when we walked in and sat at the bar, it took about 10 minutes for them to even acknowledge that we had sat down. That day their credit card system was down, so we cut them some slack since it was a bit crazy. We got mozzarella sticks for an app, and then I got the balsamic chicken wedge and my husband got the smokehouse burger and we each got a Pepsi. The service was extremely slow that day, and at a certain point the entire staff was congregating in the back room while all the food was just sitting out waiting to be brought to the tables. We cashed out and left as soon as possible. Within 10 minutes of leaving, the both of us got extremely sick. The only thing we ate in common was the mozzarella app and then we both had a soda. So either the oil that the food was fried in was dirty, or the soda lines were dirty. We were both sick all night well into the next day. We will NEVER again go back to that location because it was...
