We came here on a recommendation while here on vacation. Very very disappointed. We should have know from the latest review that they were not good. We decided to try them anyway. Parking was easy since there were only a few cars in the lot and when we went in there was no one to greet us and there were only one or two other tables occupied. We ordered onion rings and they overcooked the first order and brought us another one. We tried the battered clams and they were greasy and cold and some were so hard you couldn't even eat them. When I asked to speak to a manager our server said she wasn't there and called her but the manager would not talk to me. Our server began to lie about how our meals were and since the manager would not talk to us she said she would take care of it. She took 5.00 off our bill which was over 100.00. What? We had three meals that we couldn't even eat. Clam basket, clam dinner and the mates dinner. They charged us for two orders of onion rings. The two lobster rolls were at least eatable. Since I still wasn't happy the cook finally came out and began to argue that the seafood tasted different up here. Well it wasn't the seafood. It was actually the cook that was the problem. He then said I don't know where you people are from but he was doing the best he could. 🤔 It doesn't matter where your from.... a bad cook and no customer service is just not a good combo for any business in my opinion. He then said he didn't have time for us he had orders to get out and walked back into the kitchen. Our server stormed out slamming the door behind her so then we had to wait for for someone to come up to the front and take the money for the bill. Really I would never recommend this restaurant. Give someone else your hard...
Read moreMy wife loved the boston scrod again. That is what she gets every time we go there. I got prime rib au jus. I told the waitress that it was very tough. She said she would talk to the kitchen. When she came back she said was told to offer me a free desert. I thanked her for the offer but declined as I was going to a birthday party after dinner and was going to have cake. I felt that I should have been given a different prime rib but was not. I tried to eat the meat but it was so tough and tasteless that I was only able to eat about half of it. I wasn't upset with the waitress so I left her a good tip. I paid the bill ($17.99) for a steak that was inedible. As I was leaving the restaurant the hostess asked how everything was. I politely told her and she asked if I told the waitress. I said yes and told her about desert. She said that I should have gotten a different steak. This is where my wife wanted to go for our 39th wedding anniversary (April 5, 2014) meal. What a disappointment. I thought I did all the right things in letting the restaurant know about my bad meal. I was calm and polite and feel that I got ripped off. Maybe someone should talk to the person in the kitchen that makes decisions about how to take care of a customer. Needless to say, I will not be returning to the Village Inn. It's to bad because my wife loves the boston scrod. She has never had a bad meal there. We have been there a lot. The service is great and I love the coffee. This is not the first time that I have had a bad food experience there. This is the first time that I said anything about it and was disappointed with the way it...
Read moreI debated on writing this or not because it wasn't a terrible experience but there were a couple things that weren't ideal when we went to the Village Inn for Mother's Day yesterday.
When 1 person waited a while to get a refill on his drink, he actually went and found our waitress and then waited another 10 minutes for his drink. When he remarked about she said, "we are short staffed" and she walked away.
My moms clams were a little underdone but my food tasted great. I wanted the haddock sandwich but she said they were not serving that, so i got the fish and chips instead. It looked like a kids meal that cost 17.00. It was 4 little haddock pieces and a handful of fries, literally. One other persons meal looked exceptionally small like mine but everyone else plates were mounded with seafood and fries. On a positive note I had room for an ice cream on the way home lol but in all seriousness for the price they should have at least covered the plate we with fries to make the appearance of a 17.00 dish.
We had a party of 13 but everyone had their own bills and our waitress added gratuities to everyone's bill. She did let us know, as she handed the bills out, that she had done that. So I felt she wasn't trying to be underhanded about it, which has happened to me at another place in the past, hence why i dislike gratuity. She definitely shorted herself though because we all would have left her more regardless of the stuff I talked about above. She was quite busy and many of us having worked in restaurants understand what thats like.
Unfortunately, it probably won't be the place we choose...
