My S.O. had his job moved to Maine on a Temp basis, so we traveled to see him. While there, we took in the sights, in Lewiston, just across the bridge, is Saint Peters Basilica, easily seen from the walk or the rooms that face Lewiston. The ducks and Squirrells are a lot of fun to watch. The trail is nice but we didn't walk the whole thing, only to the overlook. We walked over to Lewiston and found it a very quaint place, but we only walked the equivalent of 10 blocks and found ourselves at St. Peters. You can not see the tip of the church if You are standing at the stairs. We then walked back toward the Memorial park and found a cozy little comic store, it was very nice and clean and the gentleman who was running it was VERY patient with my kid and all their questions. The hotel staff is pretty 'on top of things', when we showed up for the fireworks, the grass and sitting area had been divided, guests on one side, non guests on the other. My kid and I were sitting at one of the outside tables, those can only be access THROUGH the hotel when it's blocked the way it was. You have to have a room key to enter the hotel anywhere but the lobby, we had come through a side door and took a seat at the empty table. There was this lady whom came over and struck up a conversation, finally coming to her point, She: "I haven't seen You around." Me: "We just got here today." She: "This space is for registered guests only." Me; "Would you like to see my room key? (My S.O.) has been here since May, we were invited up today for the fireworks and to stay through the weekend." (it was now July) Her demeanor changed really quick as I was reaching in my pocket, (as I couldn't remember the room number, we had been in 4 different rooms, each on a different floor,) She: "No, no, that's fine, I just have to make sure that there isn't any outsiders on this side of the fence." She almost looked embarrassed to have approached us once I offed to show the her the key. I went on the to say, "I can appreciate what You are trying to do, but we have been coming here ALL summer." She: "I wasn't sure if I had seen You here before." I told her about the wonderful conversation I had with the restaurant staff a few weeks ago, calling the worker out by first name. Now, clearly, I must be a patron if I have been to the restaurant and had time to chat up the staff when they weren't super busy. The woman who had approached us ended our encounter with "I am so Glad You could make here again." Then she went inside, I don't know if she was outside before we were or not, but I did feel like I was being harassed, I guess the non guests become an issue on Firework night, but She shouldn't have assumed I didn't belong there, her approach should have been, "Hi, (Identify with name/title) do You know what room number You are staying in?" That approach would have been much better than the accusatory tone she had at the beginning of the encounter. I wish her no ill will, just hope that she has picked up a little 'tact' for next time. All and all, the Auburn Lewiston area is quite a land mark. The memorial on the other side of the river was very nice, the old battle gun, the willy mounted on a cement pillar and all the names of those lost to different wars. It was humbling. The River walk is FULL of small wildlife, squirrels play around ducks and ducks mind their own, ducks can't be approached, but if You sit on the bench long enough, curiosity hits them and the ducks will waddle over and side eye You, just don't make sudden moves. Often the ducks step into the tall grass and 'disappear' only to reappear on the water. Some crazy Quackery.

I love the Riverwalk, great view and peaceful. The cliff over the falls is very beautiful. Takes you away from the city stress of life. Great place to walk. Please put a porta potty somewhere for people who walk the river, near the Falls..ty Some establishments dont oblige unless your a customer.
