I've loved this place since the moment I stepped inside. At first, I was concerned about another small restaurant opening next to a grocery store and that the place would only get business out of novelty and convenience. I've never been more happy to have been proven wrong. The owner treats his business like a passion project and it really shows. I was greeted as if i was being welcomed into the home of a family member who wanted nothing but to feed me. The food's deliciousness is a testament to the quality, as a fair amount of the menu is raw. They offer multiple styles of bowls that you can just point at and say "that one, please" if you're unsure of how to "Build Yo Poke"! This would be a 5 star review were it not for the Indian guy who lackadaisically throws together "Yo Poke" :( sometimes. He's a real bummer of an server who just kinda hovers around the front of the store like a wet fart until you've stood in line for a few minutes and are almost ready to walk out. He then reluctantly detaches himself from his laptop and lurches over to you, with the attitude of someone who is peddling gruel or slop. You have to shout your choices at him, and even then, he's probably going to give you something else. (Which is fine i guess. Everything they serve is good food). Mr. Business Owner, Sir please get rid of this grumpy troll so he can get back to whatever it is that's more important on his computer and I can finally build my own poke again! I want to give you all of...
Read moreI'm a huge fan of poke bowls so we excited to see this new place pop up! I was not disappointed in the least.
Inside feels like an Asian grocery. They have a number of different snacks to try- I got the shrimp chips which were AMAZING - in addition to the poke bowls and burritos. It's a very interesting fusion that has a great vibe.
I got a medium make your own bowl half sushi rice half kale noodles. And let me say, I will be back for those noodles. They are so good and if you want to be a bit lighter on carbs they're perfect. The tuna and salmon were fresh - the color and taste were amazing. They have a lot more topping options than Hello poke -- I felt more asian influence with the kimchi, picked radishes, ginger, etc. Two different seaweed options plus furikake, in addition to standards like crisp onions and garlic. There were lots of sauce options but I stuck to sesame and ponzu.
I liked how all your toppings went into a different bowl to be mixed with the sauces then placed on top of the base.
The portions are generous. For me, I don't eat a lot so this bowl will be at least 3 meals for me. The noodles and seaweed salad cost extra so with my drink and chips it was $24. Almost what I spend at Hello Poke for just a bowl. So I feel its very fairly priced.
All in all, an excellent experience, delicious food, and I will...
Read moreStopped by Build Yo Poke for a quick lunch and left very pleased. Ordered a small bowl that came with 1 protein scoop, rice or choose of base, and your choice of toppings. I went with the salmon, with seaweed salad and other veggies as well as some imitation and crispy onions and garlic. There are a variety of sauces to mix in as well and I opted for eel sauce and spicy mayo. All of the ingredients were fresh and mixed together well in the bowl, and it was very filling and delicious. I was most impressed with the seaweed salad as it was made perfectly. The man working the counter was kind and friendly too. Will be coming back to try different bowl...
