We are regulars at Miyako. The food is great, and we have always gotten really good service UNTIL YESTERDAY! We took our son there for a 19th birthday dinner with family. We were seated in a timely fashion and another couple sat at the remaining two seats making our table fully occupied. We sat for a while without any service. Then a family of four was seated at a hibachi table across from us... They walked in as we were being seated so we were there a good 20 or so minutes before them. As soon as they were seated, they received their drinks while we, a full a table of guests, remained ungreeted and unserved. A few minutes later another family of four was seated at this table and they, too, placed and received drinks. The waitress from that table kept looking at us rather uncomfortably and then she came over and took our drink order. Let's be clear, she was NOT our waitress, but it seemed like she recognized that we had been waiting a long time and was simply being courteous. When she came back with our drinks, another waitress walked over, our assigned server, and the helpful one began explaining to her who had what drink. As we were getting drinks, the table across from us began their salads and appetizers. We watched and waited as this other table had their food cooked and served to them while we sipped on our drinks. After almost an hour of waiting with drinks only, a member of our party went to the front desk and shared our experience. The "manager" on duty acknowledged that we had been waiting an unusually long time AND were served AFTER a table that was seated well after we were. He said, "We'll make sure you're taken care of." By the time our cook arrives, the cook at the table across from us was wrapping up. Our cook came out, and he was AWESOME. My husband tipped him well as usual when he finished. As we were eating, the manager spoke with the waitress several times in our presence, and they asked about three times who was on what check. When we received our tickets, not one penny was taken off of the price of the food. Now let me be clear, we did not go to to our favorite restaurant with the hope of receiving some type of discount. We wanted good quality service like we normally get. However, once the service didn't measure up, my husband insisted that we leave and go somewhere else. He said if he was spending more than $100 on food for two people, he expected to be treated better. I had faith that the staff would make an effort to mediate the issues, so I convinced my husband and son to stay and give them a chance. Not only did the waitress and manager not come to the table to offer a simple apology, his effort to make sure we were "taken care of" amounted to nothing at all. I'm so disappointed because Miyako is our go-to Japanese spot. In addition, the ice cream that comes with our never was never offered or served. Even when we can't dine in, I go buy take out sushi for home. The blatant disregard of the wait staff and manager when there was clearly an issue with the service is disappointing. My son said he wished we could have just gone somewhere else and that speaks volumes since he picked Miyako for his birthday dinner. For the first time ever, I chose not to leave a tip. We NEVER do that and my husband struggled with it, but I simply could not tip for...
Read moreOn 4/5/2024 I entered as a party of 2 and was seated at a grill with 2 other groups. One party of 4 and another party of 2. Things started off smoothly but soon went south as soon as our chef began preparing our food. One of the patrons sitting at our table seemed to be in a hostile mood and did not take well to the comedic atmosphere. This would soon erupt into a full blown altercation between the chef and the patron due to and error made by the chef while cooking. This was done in front directly in front of 2 small children. The chef and hostile patron both exchanged verbal obscenities toward each other. The hostile patron even went as far as making an ominous threat toward the chef before leaving. This left us all with a slightly uneasy feeling. The hostile party left the table and the chef was not able to fully regain his composure as his focus and conversation continued to be about the altercation even when asked by those remaining at the table to let it go and finish cooking with love. The food did get served but the chef was flustered and didn’t serve the other person in my party all their food. I’m assuming it burned as when he checked it, he just removed it from the grill and did not serve it. The portions were small comparatively to the other times I’ve visited this restaurant and also small in comparison to the plates of others at another grill. The chef expressed his apologies and stated he would cover the bill for the entire table before he left the grill. Later as our waitress returned to ask how we would be paying she stated she had no knowledge of anyone covering the bill and she left to go investigate the matter. Minutes later after plating the food into Togo plates and no answer on who was covering the bill, I headed toward the front to pay. Literally seconds after paying someone who I assume was a manager, walked up and said dinner was on the house. I made him to know I had already paid and asked could I be given a voucher or gift card for my next meal. He said he sorry I don’t have any but if i would if I could. I’m assuming the others at the table got their dinner on the house because they had not yet paid. I didn’t press the issue of a refund because it should’ve be common courtesy at that point. This was the other person in party’s first time at a hibachi style restaurant and the experience was nothing of what i promised them it would be. We were failed in every way and still payed full price as if we were given Miyako Sushi and Steakhouse’s best service. Nothing was done to make the situation right from the beginning. No one stepped in to de-escalate the altercation, no one stepped in to ensure we left satisfied. I loved this place and chose to come here over a competing hibachi restaurant for a reason. At this point this establishment no longer deserves my business and I would caution all who...
Read moreI frequent Miyako's regularly with my family, and we usually enjoy the service and the atmosphere, but THE STAFF... I always order my meals without eggs due to dietary restrictions. The young lady/man, that took my order over the phone this time was extremely rushed, and though she repeated my order back to me correctly, she input the order incorrectly and my food had EGGS. I kindly called back after I got all the way to Grovetown to notify the restaurant that my order was incorrect. The young lady/man, answered, argued with me that I gave her my order incorrectly (Which I am sure I did not because I always state the EGG restriction due to the health complications that could arise from eating EGGS). She proceeded to say they would only replace the rice (though the eggs had touched all of the food) THEN she hung up in my face ABRUPTLY. I then called back and requested to speak only to the manager. The manager proceeded to tell me that she would replace the rice, but I would have to pay an additional $8.95 for the shrimp. I have never heard of a restaurant getting an order incorrect, and then having the customer pay for the order, but I agreed due to the time restriction. I asked the manager about my vegetables and she stated that she would have my entire order replaced. I arrived to the location, with the food in hand that was incorrect. The manager took the entire plate from me untouched and she proceeded to ring me out for the new order. She then told me that I had to pay an additional $22.95 for food that they incorrectly placed. I told the manager that I was not going to pay for a 3rd meal after I had already spent over $59 dollars on my original order. The manager proceed to take $17 that I had in my hand and gave me the order. This was completely unacceptable. This business will not get any more money from me, my family or friends, and I will make sure that I let everyone know that this business has very unprofessional staff, and they are robbing people instead of making things right with their customers. I would not recommend this place to an animal after the reception I received and I will be sure to let everyone I know, know that. I was really excited to see that they were building another location near me in Grovetown, but I do not and WILL not be visiting. There are several other great Hibachi locations in Augusta and THIS location is not one! Save your money...
