Walking into Hawaiian Style BBQ in Augusta felt like stepping back onto the islands. I was immediately greeted by a warm, friendly mohine who made me feel right at home. Hawaiian music was playing in the background, setting the perfect vibe. I’ve visited Hawaii many times, and I can honestly say this is one of the best Hawaiian restaurants I’ve been to on the mainland. Period.
Food: They started us off with chicharrón (pork rinds) that were seasoned perfectly—crispy, flavorful, and I’m pretty sure they were made in-house. Absolutely delicious. I paired my meal with their lilikoi party punch (with rum), and it was phenomenal—sweet, tangy, refreshing, and not too strong.
For my main plate, I ordered the Hungry Hawaiian lunch plate, which included Korean BBQ short ribs, kalua pork, and Hawaiian BBQ chicken, with rice, mac salad, and kalua cabbage. The portions were enormous—easily enough to feed 3–4 people. I ate half and still had plenty left over. • The kalua pork was tender, juicy, and full of authentic island flavor. • The Korean BBQ short ribs were cut perfectly, melt-in-your-mouth tender, and clearly marinated for at least 24–48 hours. • The BBQ chicken was smoky, juicy, and absolutely spot-on.
Service & Ambiance: Service was outstanding—attentive, kind, and welcoming. My server, Shonnalynn, was one of the best servers I’ve had during my entire stay in Augusta. She was attentive, genuine, and truly made me feel at home. That level of care elevated the whole experience.
Hats off to the kitchen as well—Ms. Megan, the chef, is one of the better auntie cooks I’ve had the pleasure of tasting from here in Georgia. Her flavors, execution, and authenticity brought me right back to the islands.
The atmosphere overall was pure kamaʻāina (family-style comfort), making you feel like you were eating in a Hawaiian home.
Extras: For dessert, I tried the banana fritter, deep-fried hopia-style, dusted with powdered sugar and drizzled with caramel. It was the perfect sweet finish.
Another nice touch: the menu also features Filipino dishes, which shows how the owners beautifully blend Hawaiian and Filipino culture into their food.
Final Verdict: This is hands-down a must-try spot in Augusta if you’re looking for something beyond southern food. Hawaiian Style BBQ delivers authentic island flavors, generous portions, and heartfelt service. I’ll absolutely be back—and I 100% recommend it to...
Read moreHad a good lunch experience in this restaurant a few weeks ago. It's quite small but a nice little spot in the shopping center. Ordered the BBQ Combo platter to share. It was short ribs, chicken, and teriyaki beef and the meat was mounded high. We had it with a side of rice, kimchi and potato salad. The kimchi is nice, almost like a kimchi slaw, def not the like the sour and long fermented kind. The potato salad taste was good but the potatos were firmer then I think was intended. Little one opted for the musubi and you can make better at home. My largest issue was it was not prepared. The spam is straight out of the can. Not seared, crisped and sauced or anything. It was literally sliced and pressed onto the rice so it very much had the aroma of tinned cat food and fish as the amount of furikake was also excessive. The taste was not great and the cost of the kids meal of musubi and fries should be way less.
The bbq combo was however a great deal so we picked up some hawaiian the other day for take out. I ordered the same bbq combo to pick up. It was it 29 dollars after taxes and somehow an extra 10 dollars was charged to my card. We had already drove off when I noticed the receipt and sadly, had a far less plesant experience dining out, than in. The food was just not as great and not nearly as much the second time around, like it was significantly less food.
The dine-in platter was enough to fill two plates and then some with leftovers. The plate I picked up for lunch the other day on, 02/19/25, was significantly less. Not even 4 short rib pieces in the whole order and they were mostly gristle. In addition the chicken was underdone which meant we had to reheat it and whatever it touched. So not only were we overcharged for the order, the food was nowhere near the same quality as it was the first time around so it was quite disappointing.
It's unfortunate we received such poor take out service and were overcharged so sadly we will miss out on eating here in the future. The flavours were great, the dine in experience was nice so I will happily include those photos alongside my review, however the take out was a rip off and a turn off as well. A heads up to triple check those receipts for the orders you pick up and def skip out on the spam musubi. Try to dine in if you can for the best experience and...
Read more⚠️🩷Fair warning, this will be a long message, but it’s only because Hawaiian Style BBQ has been such an important part of my time in Augusta. When I first moved to Augusta from Atlanta, my only goal was to finish the Respiratory Therapy program and return to Atlanta. I wasn’t familiar with the area at all, but I decided to stop by Hawaiian Style BBQ to try the garlic chicken plate. Not only did I LOVEEEE the food, but the atmosphere left a lasting impression on me.
I ended up applying for a server position and was thrilled when I got the job. A year later, I can honestly say that working here has been one of the best experiences of my life. When my program ended, I didn’t want to leave, and it’s not just because of the food or the work itself. It’s because of the incredible people who work here—they’ve become like family to me.
From day one, I felt their unwavering kindness and support, not just professionally but personally as well. No matter how hectic my schedule was with school and clinicals, I always looked forward to coming to work (I even came on my days off to study). The team here, including the managers, created such a positive environment that it became my sanctuary in the midst of a busy and challenging time.
I especially want to thank Matt, the general manager, for hiring me and for consistently inspiring me to give my best. Matt, you lead with determination and heart, and Hawaiian Style BBQ wouldn’t be the same without you. You’ve kept the team united and motivated, and I’ve learned to “Do whatever it takes” and unapologetically give my all.
There are so many people at this job who have touched my heart that I’d end up listing everyone if I tried to name them all. 🩷 (They know who they are). Hawaiian Style BBQ has truly been the best job I’ve ever had—and I’ve had quite a few! This team will always be my ohana, my family. Even when I thought my time in Augusta was over, this job and the people here will always give me a reason to come back.
If you’re looking for amazing food and an even better community, Hawaiian Style BBQ is the place to be. I feel incredibly blessed to have been part of it. 🌺🩷
