I see they dont respond to reviews & have no email, but I hope I might save others! My family of 6 went there for dinner & got to a table rather quickly but it was really loud for only havin a few tables in there. When half the room cleared it was still loud.
Our waitress seemed like she'd rather have been literally ANYWHERE else! Took our drinks, we requested no ice - brought it with ice. My husband said she was just on autopilot. We passed it off. The menu is very limited, yet it was our first time there, so I had some questions. Is there a kids options? - No answer. I asked again. I got a short "We just have this one menu" I ask for a minute to try & explain to my kids what few things are available. My 2 kids & I decided to get the platter & my older son wanted a 1/2 chicken plate. She returned to take our order, I asked what hash was, Im from the north - had not a clue all she said was "Its a side dish for the plate" My son ordered his plate of chicken. She just shook her head no. but said nothing, this was very Awkard for me, my son felt embarrassed! Never in my life had I had a waitress just say no when ordering before. I was straight astonished! "Its too big" she said to him. I was fully blown away at the response, my first reaction reply was "You'd be surprised, he eats well & will share." She lets out a big sigh & writes it down after looking at my husband to confirm EVERYTHING like we couldnt just select on our own? My husband's turn to order. He couldnt hear her, he's also hard of hearing so he asked her to speak up. I was RIGHT next to her and couldn't hear her. She spoke Luckily enough for me to hear & repeat everything back to him. He said "I do not like hash, could I just have extra pickles instead?" "But its on the side." "I just dont like it, would rather not waste it." Then just said "Okay, I'll put the order in." walked away. She walked by placing 2 containers on the table without saying a word to us and walked on.
15-20 min later we got out food. She asked "who had the chicken again" There were only 3 plates to set out, I said "platter here, chicken there and brisket for my husband" She placed it all & walked away. My husband was brave enough to see what was in the containers she brought by earlier. It was BBQ sauces. One was vinegary the other was gross. My kids werent really interested in the food as it was all just a blob on a small plate. My husband didnt get the hash or rice, nor pickles. She blatantly disregarded it. I tried it hesitantly but it really had no flavor so I left it on my plate as well. Kids said it looked like barf so they didnt wanna try it at all. Fair assumption. We did being it home but to feed to our chickens since we did pay for it and couldnt see fully wasting it. My husband had to go ask another person for to go boxes, we werent really into staying very long. My husband said the potato salad was rather dry and could have used a lot more creaminess to it.
I picked up the table as I always do, stacking the plates, silverware on top and all trash to one plate for easy clean-up for the bussing staff. I took the kids outside as my husband went to pay. The table right behind us got up to leave as well, in the parking lot they said "We havent been here in quite some time I dont remember it being that loud and echo like" We had a chuckle together as I said "It was a real riot in there tonight!" My son had to tell other patrons NOT to feed the ducks bread, it wasnt good for them, I do feel there should be signs for that. I may have missed them if there were any at all. Shortly after my husband finished paying and met us at the car. The very first thing I sid to him was "Well, that was an experience, wasnt it? Now we know its lack luster and we wont be doing that again."
All in all, wasnt a great experience for us. The only good note I have is those RIBS were amazing and thats about all I would recommend...
Read moreFinally got around to trying out Sconyer’s Bar-B-Que last week. Overall, I enjoyed my experience. I tried two sandwiches, one chipped pork, the other chopped brisket, and a side of the potato salad. I also requested both the hot and regular BBQ sauces to try. Both of the sandwiches were quite tasty, I tasted the pork and beef coming through in the meat and while they do not sauce the meat, it was still moist. The brisket had a couple fattier bites where the pork did not but the meat and fat was tender and fell apart in the mouth. I did not find any gacky bites that needed to be swallowed or thrown out. On the other hand, I did find one bite of the pork that needed to be tossed as I believe a small bit of bone had been chopped into the meat. Didn’t ruin the sandwich or gross me out, just something of which to be aware. The meat portions were substantial too and made for a sandwich that could suffice on its own for a regular meal. Bun was pretty standard, nothing toasted, prepped or special about the top or bottom. Regarding the sauces, the flavors were both distinct and enjoyable. The regular is a bit sweet and the hot provides some fun flavors with just a bit of a punch. If you love hot, it’ll be great, if you’re wary, try it on a bite first. They both flow quickly too and are far from the syrup like concoctions you normally grab at the grocery store. As for the potato salad, and I’m only recently starting to eat them, I was quite impressed. By itself, it was pretty tasty, with some of the meat on it, I liked it even better. I could even see myself trying it with a whole host of other dishes like gumbo (some populations in Louisiana replace the rice in gumbo with potato salad, it’s a surprisingly good alternative). Super impressed and would definitely try if you’re not sure about the side and think it might be to your liking. While I did eat take out, so I can’t speak to the inside space, based on the theming of the drive through, I expect the inside is a very well kept and charming barn style building. The exterior drive-through was both functional and attractive. As for the seating arrangements, there websites boasts being able to host hundreds so I expect the wait time shouldn’t ever be too long. That being said, they only open a few days a week so plan out your decision to eat there. The personnel working the window were pleasant enough, knowledgeable of the menu, and their speed was as expected. Came on a couple minutes after opening time but that’s no big deal. Parking looks like it should be fine, though if the parking lot fills up I would guess people just park on their street nearby. There’s nothing else between the main drag and shopping center so I guess they have some freedom to make decisions on the fly. They do have a website, it’s a little tacky but still functional, with their menu and prices which is useful, just be careful when you first click the link because they have an awful jingle that tries to play when you open the page, you can quickly click it off at the top of the page. The price point is a little steeper than I would like personally, you’ll probably spend more than $10 per person, but it’s still quite reasonable. Overall, I enjoyed my experience and will happily point people there...
Read moreSconyers Bar-B-Que is the premier place for BBQ! From feeling like you're going to Grandma, Aunties house, to the relaxing front porch and bridge, to the " baby you need to eat! " portions this restaurant is the place to eat in Augusta. If you're here for the Masters or the Hospital, do yourself a favor and best here. They have a drive-thru, they cater, and they take every excuse for you not to get their food out of the equation. The only downside, and it's not even a bad one, is they are only open Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. They can sit 400 folks at one time, so no, I doubt the wait is long. If you do have to wait, just have a seat on the front porch and watch the fish swim in the pond, while the flowers bloom in the " front yard". When you do get seated, it's not a long wait for your food, ticket time could be 10 to 15 minutes, when they were busy when we went it was more like under 10 minutes. Three of us shared the Plantation platter, I ordered the 1/2 rack of ribs with the hash and rice, with coleslaw. My son ordered the T-loin with hash and rice, and cole slaw. Y'all, they do not play around with their portions, I had to take pictures of my plate, and I was in disbelief. The ribs were mouth-watering and delectable, and the coleslaw complimented the ribs, it tasted like they used paprika, but not enough to make it too spicy. My son had the chopped T-loin and almost cleaned his plate, but had to stop because he hit his wall. The 3 ladies shared the plantation platter and didn't even make a dent in it, there was so much food. Grandma had a 1/4 chicken plate and all I heard from her was, "Mercy" and didn't hear anything from her, till she was done eating, half her plate. If you are starving, and only eat one meal, this is the place to go, cause you can make 2 meals out of it. The staff is awesome folks, all the way down to the busboy, friendly, and helpful, and they seem to genuinely care about you, they treat you like family and not a customer. Everybody asked if we had enough to eat and to have a great and safe night. Even Mr. Larry was there on the front porch just relaxing and greeting and talking with customers, having the owner on the premises is a rarity nowadays. He informed me that at the end of the night, he any hash left over he takes to homeless shelters or churches that feed people who don't have constant access to food. Someone comes in every morning at 4 am, to make the hash. They take pork, chicken, beef, and turkey, to make the hash, fresh every day. All the hash is missing is vegetable soup, and you could have some Brunswick stew for lunch the next day. This is a restaurant that I plan to add to my list of places to eat on the regular when I come, or pass through Augusta, I think you should try it too, you won't be disappointed. If you leave Sconyers hungry, it's your fault, you...
