Located in downtown Aurora, across from Ballydoyle, sits a small Bolivian restaurant. We came here for breakfast. You can find parking behind the restaurant and you just have to walk up the stairs. They have a good amount of seating for a small shop. The menu has a nice variety of items. You order from the register and then they bring it out to you. We ordered strawberry lemonade, stuffed arepas with cheese, chicken empanada, steak empanada, fried plantains, chorrellana, and alfajores. I would recommend getting that strawberry lemonade. It’s one of the best that I have tasted.
-stuffed arepas with cheese 5 - it has a nice cheese pull. Easy to break apart. I would recommend. -chicken empanada 5 - chicken was moist. Nice flavor inside the empanada. It wasn’t salty. -steak empanada 4 - I’m not a fan of olives in my empanadas. The steak was good. -fried plantains 5 - sufficient portion. Not too sweet. Prepared the same way as Fogo’s. -chorrellana 5 - very generous portion. The meat had a good amount of fat to give it flavor. Meat itself was cooked medium rare, nice to see pink inside. It wasn’t chewy or tough. Fried eggs were tasty. Good amount of white rice, tomatoes, and onions. -alfajores 5 - great dessert. It’s kind of like a macarons but not quite. Texture is similar. These have a subtle honey flavor. It’s crumbly so it’s best to eat this over a plate but the texture is smooth. It’s not too...
Read moreIf you’re ever in the downtown Aurora area, this little eatery is a gem! We had the steak sandwich and the ham and cheese sandwich. Both sandwiches had onion, cilantro, tomato, and some sauce which made both sandwiches taste incredibly fresh and flavorful. The steak sandwich’s meat especially was charred to perfection and tender. The buns were so soft and the sizes of both sandwiches were a decent portion which left us wanting more! So consequently, we got empanadas. We tried every single one on the menu and they were so hot, tasty, and baked to perfection. The crust was especially buttery, flaky, and sort of sweet which was a surprise! Our favorites were the chicken and cheese/spinach. We also had the delicious strawberry lemonade and passionfruit juice, which were so sweet and refreshing. The place itself was so clean and comfortable. The man who took care of us at the cash register was so kind and gave us his special recommendations. We will most certainly be coming back again. ¡Muchísimas gracias y bienvenido a...
Read moreI’m Bolivian and, when I heard about Alice’s Corner being 30 minutes away from me, I was ecstatic. The restaurant truly lived up to my expectations. I ordered the picante de pollo and it was like I was transported back home. I took some beef salteñas to go and I wanted to come back for more. The owner is always there and greets everyone. He’s very kind and always makes sure those that come and visit are well taken care of. He put on traditional music from my city when I was there and that just made the experience even better. If you want a cozy place with great food and great portions, definitely try Alice’s Corner! Their prices are very reasonable for what you get.
To add, they removed egg from the typical salteña recipe in order to be more inclusive of those with food allergies and preferences. I don’t have food allergies myself, but this just shows how they are willing to accommodate to...
