Applebee's Grill + Bar — Restaurant in Aurora

My recent visit to this Applebee’s was a complete disaster. The service was rude, and there was a lot of mud in the bottom of my salad. My husband’s salad contained dirt and pebbles. He specifically asked for no tomatoes but only received lettuce and a sprinkle of cheese, with no croutons or carrots. I ordered my salad with everything on it, but it had mud at the bottom. I got a mouthful of mud and pebbles, causing me to immediately wipe my mouth with napkins and walk to the bathroom to rinse my mouth out, where I got sick.

When my husband informed the manager, she took the plate with the muddy lettuce but left the rest of the muddy salad on our table. She didn’t offer me another salad, not that I wanted one at that point. I was completely grossed out. This seemed deliberate, as the top of my salad was fine, but the bottom was full of mud. We were polite and didn't deserve such treatment.

After the manager and waitress found out about the mud in my salad bowl, they kept avoiding our table. I told my husband that I didn’t want to eat anything and just wanted to leave. He approached the manager again since she was ignoring us and told her we didn’t want to eat their food and wanted to leave. She said she would only take the salad off the bill, even though we didn’t eat any of the food. My husband had a soda and one bite of fries, and he did eat his salad despite the dirt and pebbles, but he didn’t have a salad full of mud.

We were willing to pay for what we consumed, but she was charging us for everything except the muddy salad she never offered to replace. The manager was very rude and dismissive, making rude remarks as if we had done something to our food deliberately. This experience was horrible. After waiting 20 minutes for the manager to bring the bill, she never came, so we walked out and emailed corporate.

Neither my husband nor I will be going back to this Applebee’s. The experience was uncalled for, unsanitary, and unacceptable. There was no reason to put mud at the bottom of my salad!!! I would give zero stars but can't. This experience doesn't even deserve one star. 🤬 Mud/ dirt contains bacteria, parasites, microorganisms, and pesticides. So... I could have been legitimately...

The kitchen and food was wonderful. But the survive was the worst. We were sat in the bar with our 2 young children. The waitress came and was rude from the start. She took 3 orders then looked at me and said in the most irritated voice followed by an eye roll, "do you want anything else?". I looked at her in shock and replied, "well, I'd like to order my food as well." She didn't ask if we wanted started. She didn't bring refills on our drink. Then, she starts to bring out our food. She brings out mine and the kids and before she leaves to go get my husbands food I asked if she could bring A1. She again rolls her eyes at me and said "I was about to get it". Sorry, I was just trying to make sure when my husbands foid came you don't have to make another trip...then my husbands food doesn't come. As if it's been forgotten. So we wait and wait, all still wishing for refills on our drinks. And his foid finally gets there Long enough wait that it looked like she simply forgot. My daughter ordered a corn dog, she took one bite and spit it out. The waitress never even asked us how our food was. So, my daughter was unable to eat her food at all. And we are still hoping for refills on our drinks...we got nothing. She simply never came back to our table after dropping off the food. Never asking if we'd like dessert, which we did. Never getting us the kids dessert either...and we became so thirst we decided we could go to the gas station down the street if we wanted to get something to drink. Went in about 3 weeks ago, ordered hamburgers-how can that get screwed up? I ordered bacon/cheeseburger, friend had the whisky bacon burger. Waiter brought food out, and we each took a bite. I almost choked. I had ordered specifically mustard and pickles only-knowing those are items I don't have a reaction to. The pickles were Bread and Butter-which was not mentioned when we ordered. Menu just said "pickles", and since most places serve dills, wasn't expecting something I couldn't eat. Asked waiter, and got a non-answer. Manager came by, and asked her why no dills. She said something about being off for a couple of days-then went back to check. Comes back out and says "yes, jar says B&B". Asked why no warning when we ordered, and she stated "no one knew" the wrong pickles were delivered. Sorry, but having worked in the industry, SOMEONE, either manager or chef checks in the orders. If something isn't correct, supply company is contacted. My friend said his burger tasted funny-and said the same-who puts B&B on any hamburger, unless you special order it that way? Didn't expect to have meal comped, but felt she could have said "we'll give you 5.00 off your next meal", or something to make us try them again. NOPE, sorry. Won't be back.
