Casa Garcia Review I've been a regular at Casa Garcia for the past eight months, visiting five days a week. While I primarily go there for drinks, I've also sampled their breakfast and lunch offerings. Unfortunately, my breakfast experiences have been inconsistent, plagued by subpar service or lackluster food quality.
During one visit, I ordered their pancake special, only to find the base incredibly challenging to cut. On another occasion, I opted for a custom omelet with carne asada, the worst omelet I've ever had—dry and tasteless, even with the carne asada on top. A friend suggested that the omelet might have been disappointing because I'd added bacon, and they used bacon bits instead of slices, rendering it flavorless. The last straw prompting this review was my most recent breakfast visit: poor service and a long wait time offset by a decent Migas Fajita.
I visited Casa Garcia on a Friday at 7 a.m. and was the only customer present besides the staff. The server took my order for the Migas Fajita, and I requested a glass of water with lemon. Instead of promptly bringing my water, I observed her sweeping the floor. It took her five minutes to serve me the water finally, and my food arrived 25 minutes after ordering.
Consistency is an ongoing issue at this restaurant. For instance, I once ordered Chile Con Queso Compuesto to take home, which is supposed to contain seasoned ground beef. However, when I started eating it, I found hardly any meat—just about half a teaspoon of ground beef at the bottom of the cup. I stopped eating, returned to the restaurant, and they rectified the situation.
Another example is a regular customer who orders chicken fajitas. Some days, the portion appears generous and delicious, while other times, there's a noticeable reduction in meat. This unpredictability can be confusing and disheartening, diminishing the overall dining experience.
My experiences at Casa Garcia aren’t isolated. I’ve had conversations with other patrons, and they’ve shared similar experiences. Some have even brought up the issue with the management. This shared understanding indicates that the inconsistency is a known issue.
Despite its inconsistencies, Casa Garcia has the potential to offer delightful food and excellent service. I’ve been informed that the Kyle location, while the least consistent of the seven Casa Garcia locations, still has its moments. The Manor outpost, on the other hand, consistently delivers better service. If you decide to visit Casa Garcia, multiple visits may be necessary to experience its full potential and enjoy a consistently delightful...
Read moreMy family has been bringing me here since I was a kid (I'm in my thirties now, so over half my life) and over the past few years, the prices have gone up and the new servers/ hosts they've brought in have been hit or miss, but mostly miss- I don't even bother ordering take out here anymore because there's always something wrong with it- a missing ingredient, flour tortillas in a gluten free order, etc- but it's like family, you take the good with the bad, so I've still been here weekly to eat in person with my parents or partner. But I just wanted to let the managers know about my recent disappointment here because it was so bad it was stupid. On Christmas Eve I called in around noon to ask how late I could come in and pick up some chips and salsa for a party, and was told 6pm. So around 5:45pm I walk in and tell the two kids at the counter l want to order some chips and salsa. They look at each other and collectively decide neither one of them wants to deal with it (they were busy scrolling on their phones and flirting). So the girl Judy tells me she's already closed her POS. I tell them I called in earlier and they said that someone would be able to take my order and the boy, Nico, shakes his head and says he doesn't know anything about that. So I ask if I can talk to a manager to explain my problem and help get me rung up, and Judy ROLLS HER EYES at me and they both say no- which is insane to me that the faces of the business are both too lazy to even get a manager. No one else is there- they have nothing else to do. So I ask if the bar might have an open POS and they're like yeah go check, without offering to lift a finger to help me. I'm pregnant and waddling and still being polite because I was a server for years, and I know you don't get anywhere being a Karen. And look I get it, it's the holidays, no one wants to work, but these kids were on the clock and could not have been more obnoxious. If I was as articulate and capable as these kids, I wouldn't be putting my job in jeopardy by doing less than the bare minimum is all I'm saying. Finally, the man at the bar, who recognized me and is always so polite, takes me to a server who's still waiting on a couple of tables and she rings me up, apologizes, and I leave with chips and salsa two minutes later to see Nico and Judy still scrolling and...

All the ceiling fans running full blast should have been a clue as we sat down at our well-worn and questionably clean table for dinner.
Chips and salsa were served after waiting a while for a server. Water and drinks took quite a while afterwards. At least the salsa was spicy.
We ordered sizzling fajita plates, one steak and one chicken. We ordered extra tortillas, one flour and one corn. My son had a large margarita, and it was large and good.
The fajitas showed up without tortillas, served by a wide-eyed gentleman that spoke no English. We looked around for a server, with none to be found. Eventually another gentleman showed up with tortillas, again speaking no English. He sat there clueless as we tried to find out how why we received two orders of flour tortillas.
The server finally showed up, and my adult son also asked where the corn tortillas might be. She saucily snapped that one was corn and one was flour. He asked how to tell them apart, and she rudely said she was Mexican and could tell them apart. That does not help the customer have any confidence, not how to tell them apart in the future.
With that treatment and no AC (the thermostat said it was 83F on the way out), it is guaranteed we will not return. I have never seen a restaurant in Austin with no AC in the 5.5 years I have been here.
When it came down to the quality of the fajitas, the grilled onions and peppers had the only flavor on the plates. The beef had no taste or marinade you could detect. The chicken was way overcooked and had no flavor.
Our search for a Mexican restaurant in Austin that has true flavor, good atmosphere and service sadly...
