I have an issue with the misrepresented price, product and service that I received while picking up a to go order. I placed a to-go order at Curra's and realized that the price represented on their website was different from the price I payed at the restaurant. I spoke to a manager about the price and he did not want to honor the price represented on the menu. He told me that many guests have complained about the price being wrong and that the owners will not do anything to change it. I also had an issue with the food order. They put re-fried beans on the order of nachos. The nachos were soft tortillas cut in half and toasted. The beans caused the tortillas to be soggy in the to-go container. I asked the manager to change the order so that I could have actual nacho chips with a side of beans, queso and steak. The manager told me that they do not make nachos that way and that they would not do it. Eventually after speaking with two servers he changed his mind and gave me the individual chips with the condiments on the side, but told me that I would have to pay for the condiments separately as well as pay for the original order of nachos. I told him that I eat at Curra's often and have never had these problems. He told me that he has worked there for eleven years and has never seen me. I am insulted by the way the manager handled the situation and surprised that they have not changed the price in their system to mach the price advertised. I did eventually get the nachos that I wanted for the advertised price however the way their senior manager handled the situation was ridiculous. Fix the prices so that the advertised price matches the payment. When a customer would like a different order because they do not like the food, give them a different order. Do not put moist food on food on tortillas for to-go orders. Don't act confused when a customer explains what nachos are and don't tell me you don't recognize me even though I have been eating at your restaurant for years. Management needs to learn how to handle...

8:30pm: The manager, Enrique was outstanding. He was very knowledgeable, courtgal, and provide world class customer service! He was very informative with answering our questions for visiting for the first time. He educated us on the different dishes what makes each dish special. Him alone I would have given 5 stars for the service. We were very impress by him. That was the best part of our experience... From there went down hill to 2 stars after our waiter, RICO, stepped in to take our order. The Kelly's Queso was brought room temperature (cold) but after telling the waiter warm queso was switched out. From there.. we waited for 20 minutes for food after finishing our appetizers. Right before our food was brought out our waiter informed us (4 small size ladies), the restuarant ran out of rice with our entrees. We were understanding and accepted as is. One of the dish we ordered was beef fajitas dish.. (9:27pm), and the fajitas was beef jerk super dried.. as if it was the last dried bits of pieces left at the end of the night.. it was terrible. I was really disappointed in the overly raved reviews. Coming from San Antonio , capital of Mexican cuisine , I was very disappointed. I don't write reviews but over all the customer service from Rico and the food quality was terrible. They charged us 2 side of sour cream after not giving us rice...( -.-). That is petty for business and bad customer service especially running out of sidings. Do not recommend base on food quality, service of waiter, cost, and charge. Veggie fajitas of 17.99? (Bellpepper, onions, red bell pepper, tortillas, black beans) Beef Fajitas 17.99 same cost as Veggie Fajitas? Does that make any sense??? Smh. And to top that off, no option to separate/split the bill. Inconvenience for the business or is it about...

This visit occurred at 1:30 p.m. on a Saturday. It was busy and parking was tight. Seating is indoors and is somewhat limited. However, we easily found a parking place and our party of two was seated immediately.

The waitress immediately took our drink orders and asked if we wanted an appetizer. My wife asked if I wanted to get the Salsa Sampler, which is popular, but I said I would pass this time. Our drinks arrived, but we never received any normal salsa and chips. We thought maybe the waitress didn't think we wanted any since I passed on the Salsa Sampler. So, my wife asked for some, and they arrived quickly. Our total drinks were two Modelo beers @ $6 each and a cocktail @ $14. All were good.

I had the Dos Enchaladas plate. The menu shows it includes "beans." The waitress asked what type beans I wanted and told me what was available. I chose charro beans. My wife ordered the Tamale plate and also chose charro beans. We also ordered an Empanda appetizer to have with the meal. Both food plates were good and were a big enough serving size to get a to-go box. The empandas were not good and had an old grease taste. The overall service was OK.

Our bill was $77.96, pre tip. When I looked at the bill, I saw that we were charged $1 each for charro beans and $3 for chips and salsa.

This has always been one of the two places we go to for Mexican food when in Austin. I don't remember ever being charged for a bean type or regular chips and salsa. I find such "extra" charges off-putting, even if only $5. Our total bill, for lunch, was $92.36. I would have probably rated Curra's four stars in the past, but not now. I doubt I'll be back...

We're local in the neighborhood since 2019 and have always loved going to Curra's; this colorful, south Austin staple is a gem. My review is simply some feedback to the restaurant about our experience there yesterday. It seems like after their big refurbishment this year, a couple of things might have changed? The bar menu doesn't have any prices listed on them. I can understand posting a bar menu online without the prices, but when you're already sitting at the bar, I think it's better for a casual, family-style restaurant to go ahead and share the prices with their customers. We had ordered 2 regular frozen lime margaritas and our waitress kindly suggested that we upgrade to the special margaritas which we took her advice and ordered. They were delicious. We ordered a 3rd margarita to share and chips and salsa. When she told us the total at the end however, we were both shocked...$45 for 3 drinks and chips/salsa only! Turns out each drink was $13 and chips/salsa was $3. My feedback that is that the drink prices seemed steep for a family-owned, family-style restaurant. While wonderful, the margaritas glasses are not big, especially for $13. I probably would feel better about this if there was more transparency from the start! I can understand why a restaurant wants to charge for chips & salsa to cover some of its costs, but as a born and bred Texan, I guess being charged for a TexMex staple feels a little nickel & dimed. We will continue to support Curra's going forward but hoping to see more transparency on the menus.

Old Austin Gem! Its weird calling something "old Austin" when its from the early 90s, but hey, there's not much left that exists in its original form from earlier that hasn't been turned into a chain or bought out. I wish there were still more places like this in Austin. My significant other had heard about an avocado margarita and wanted to try one. She read this place had the original and the best. The restaurant is located right next to a gas station on E. Oltorf. It was a slow mid-afternoon Sunday so there weren't any cars in the parking lot. From the outside, I was skeptical to say the least. But the moment I walked through the door my skepticism disappeared and I was happy she made me stop. The inside was alive with vibrant wall murals on all of the interior from local artists. Hell, even the men's bathroom wall art was amazing street painter art! The bar was trendy, with a lot of craft liquors and tequila, but old-school-cool, just like the bartender, Jake. He took great care of us and told us of the history of the place, mixed amazing drinks, and was just a genuine nice guy. The avocado marg was excellent. The only food we ate was the "salsa special" with 9 different house salsas to sample. It was awesome and I'll be getting that again! I can eat my weight in salsa. The sweet habanero was an unexpected favorite. Jake even whipped up a specialty drink for us that was absolutely killer. I don't even know the name of it but I want another. I am so happy we stopped. Don't pass this old-Austin original up.
