A nice, small atmosphere perfect for enjoying some fresh pies! Initially coming in, there are see-through fridges with cold beverages on your left. This path leads to the cashier and order station where the menu above is bright and visible. After ordering, there are multiple tables and seating (although, it is very limited and close, so you might sit next to others or stand while waiting for your food). To the right of the cashier, you can view the pizzas being constructed and baked before your very eyes! Additionally, to the right of the pizza-constructing zone was the pick-up and condiment bar. The pizzas come fresh, made with fresh ingredients and at a pipping hot speed!

Our family's experience with the place was pretty doggone swell. We ordered the Margherita Classic VPN, Diavola, and (I want to say Marinara..?) The staff and customer service were especially accommodating: kind to my family, an exciting and positive disposition towards their craft, and more than happy to explain the process of pizza-making. The pizzas were made in the beautifully designed San Antonio and San Sixtus ovens and came out within a minute or two.

Of course, the pizzas were practically BOILING when they landed on our table, but that did not stop us from chowing down on this delectable dish! Between all three pizzas, the crust, sauce, and cheese (even though it is not in the Marinara) were excellent. The crust was flavorfully charred, malleable, yet crunchy. The sauce provided a nice earthy base while giving the pizza a palpable texture that took the pie to the next level. Finally, the variety of cheeses definitely diversified the tastes of each pizza, adding a salty, creamy blend or a fascinating savory blend with the sauce. Either way, a treat! The Margherita Class VPN was an Associazione Verace Pizza Napoletana (VPN) for sure, but the drier cheese, palpable crust, and larger sizes of DeSano's pizza differentiate their pies from other VPN pies to be a delectable anomaly among the VPN pies! The Diavola was hot - meaning SPICY hot - and no one was prepared for the sudden burst of taste or kick to each bite of that Diavola pie! But in all seriousness, the soppressata and mozzarella surprisingly well, better than pepperoni might do. And for simplicity, the garlic and San Marzano sauce on the Marinara blended well for a pleasant taste.

Some things to be weary of is the bus stop right outside of DeSano's locale. One of my family members was yelled at right after leaving the restaurant, which slightly soured our appetizing experience. Also, the pizzeria might be a ways walk for anyone wishing to walk there. Located between Downtown Austin and the Colorado River, the nearest hotel will take at least a five minute walk through Austin traffic and heavy heat (like in the blistering summer when we walked). As for price, the pizza at lunch is at a midrange price level for its value; however, the Napoli and Grande may be a little on the high-end. Just keep it in mind.

All in all, top-notch food and some full bellies! 5/5 and undoubtedly recommend to anyone in or planning to be...

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A True Slice of Napoli in the Heart of Austin!

If you’re craving authentic, wood-fired Neapolitan pizza that tastes like it was flown in straight from Naples — run, don’t walk, to DeSano Pizzeria Napoletana in Downtown Austin.

From the moment you walk in, the aroma of charred dough and bubbling mozzarella pulls you straight into pizza heaven. The open kitchen gives you front-row seats to the pizza magic — massive ovens blazing, dough flying, and pizzaiolos crafting each pie with pure passion.

Let’s talk pizza: the Margherita D.O.P. is a masterclass in simplicity — perfectly chewy crust with just the right char, rich San Marzano tomatoes, fresh mozzarella di bufala, and a drizzle of olive oil that ties it all together like a symphony. The Diavola brings the heat in all the right ways. And the Lasagna Pizza? It’s like Nonna herself gave it her blessing.

The vibe? Casual, warm, and welcoming — perfect for date nights, family outings, or grabbing a pie with friends before hitting the town. And bonus: they have imported Italian sodas and a solid craft beer selection to round it all out.

Service is fast, friendly, and knows their pizza inside and out. They treat you like famiglia here.

If you consider yourself a pizza lover, a foodie, or just someone who wants a perfect meal, DeSano is non-negotiable. This isn’t just pizza. It’s an...

DeSano Pizza – A Slice of Italy in Downtown Austin

DeSano Pizza truly made us smile from the moment we walked in. The aroma of authentic pizza instantly transported us back to the old days in Italy—it was such a nostalgic and wonderful feeling.

The staff greeted us with warm smiles, making us feel right at home. And meeting the owner, Luciano, was such a special moment. His passion for food and dedication to quality shines through in every detail. Most of the ingredients are imported directly from Italy, and you can taste the authenticity in every bite.

The pizza was so incredible that we couldn’t stop eating, but at the same time, we savored every moment—because that’s how food like this is meant to be enjoyed. Luciano’s love for his craft is something you can feel in every bite.

As if the amazing food wasn’t enough, my son even got to practice making his own pizza dough, which made the visit unforgettable for him too.

I’ve always loved pizza, but DeSano reminded me why I love it so much. It’s not just a meal—it’s an experience. This is a must-visit spot in Austin, and I know I’ll be coming back again and again.

If you’re looking for authentic Italian pizza and a warm, welcoming atmosphere, DeSano is the place to go.

Truly World-Class Pizza – A Must-Visit in Austin! I’ve been fortunate enough to enjoy some of the best pizza around the world—from the heart of Naples to hidden gems in New York and Chicago—and I can say with complete confidence: DeSano Pizza in downtown Austin is right up there with the best of them. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with the irresistible aroma of wood-fired dough and fresh ingredients. The pizzas here are nothing short of perfection. The crust is a flawless balance of chewy and crisp, the sauce is bright and tangy, and the toppings taste like they were picked and prepared just moments before hitting the oven. You can taste the authenticity in every bite—clearly crafted with love, skill, and a serious respect for tradition. The service was warm, welcoming, and genuinely passionate about what they do. You don’t just eat at DeSano, you experience it. This isn’t just a pizza place. It’s a celebration of everything that makes pizza one of the most universally loved foods on Earth. If you’re in Austin and you don’t stop by DeSano, you’re missing out on one of the city’s true culinary treasures. Absolutely phenomenal. I’ll be dreaming of that pizza until I return.
