A nice, small atmosphere perfect for enjoying some fresh pies! Initially coming in, there are see-through fridges with cold beverages on your left. This path leads to the cashier and order station where the menu above is bright and visible. After ordering, there are multiple tables and seating (although, it is very limited and close, so you might sit next to others or stand while waiting for your food). To the right of the cashier, you can view the pizzas being constructed and baked before your very eyes! Additionally, to the right of the pizza-constructing zone was the pick-up and condiment bar. The pizzas come fresh, made with fresh ingredients and at a pipping hot speed!
Our family's experience with the place was pretty doggone swell. We ordered the Margherita Classic VPN, Diavola, and (I want to say Marinara..?) The staff and customer service were especially accommodating: kind to my family, an exciting and positive disposition towards their craft, and more than happy to explain the process of pizza-making. The pizzas were made in the beautifully designed San Antonio and San Sixtus ovens and came out within a minute or two.
Of course, the pizzas were practically BOILING when they landed on our table, but that did not stop us from chowing down on this delectable dish! Between all three pizzas, the crust, sauce, and cheese (even though it is not in the Marinara) were excellent. The crust was flavorfully charred, malleable, yet crunchy. The sauce provided a nice earthy base while giving the pizza a palpable texture that took the pie to the next level. Finally, the variety of cheeses definitely diversified the tastes of each pizza, adding a salty, creamy blend or a fascinating savory blend with the sauce. Either way, a treat! The Margherita Class VPN was an Associazione Verace Pizza Napoletana (VPN) for sure, but the drier cheese, palpable crust, and larger sizes of DeSano's pizza differentiate their pies from other VPN pies to be a delectable anomaly among the VPN pies! The Diavola was hot - meaning SPICY hot - and no one was prepared for the sudden burst of taste or kick to each bite of that Diavola pie! But in all seriousness, the soppressata and mozzarella surprisingly well, better than pepperoni might do. And for simplicity, the garlic and San Marzano sauce on the Marinara blended well for a pleasant taste.
Some things to be weary of is the bus stop right outside of DeSano's locale. One of my family members was yelled at right after leaving the restaurant, which slightly soured our appetizing experience. Also, the pizzeria might be a ways walk for anyone wishing to walk there. Located between Downtown Austin and the Colorado River, the nearest hotel will take at least a five minute walk through Austin traffic and heavy heat (like in the blistering summer when we walked). As for price, the pizza at lunch is at a midrange price level for its value; however, the Napoli and Grande may be a little on the high-end. Just keep it in mind.
All in all, top-notch food and some full bellies! 5/5 and undoubtedly recommend to anyone in or planning to be...
