Figure 8 Coffee Purveyors has that unmistakable hipster charm, instantly reminding us of coffee spots in California. It feels deeply local—almost everyone inside seems like a regular, with no random foot traffic, which adds to its character.
The interior is old-school in the best way possible. It looks like nothing has changed since the place first opened, possibly 30 years ago. This isn’t a flaw—it gives the space a relaxed, cozy atmosphere that makes you want to stay a while. Coffee bags and a massive, monolithic coffee roaster dominate the space, reinforcing the serious approach to coffee. The espresso setup is also impressive, with two different options to choose from—something you rarely see, as most cafés only offer one.
It’s a small shop with a limited but well-curated selection of desserts. The service is friendly and welcoming, making the experience even better. They also seem to have a strong wine selection, suggesting that this isn’t just a morning café but a place that transitions into an evening spot as well.
The presence of greenery throughout the space adds to the overall warmth and comfort. Figure 8 isn’t just a coffee shop—it’s a place with a soul, where every detail contributes to a laid-back yet high-quality experience. Highly recommended for coffee lovers who appreciate authenticity and a...
Read moreOk, I honestly don't think that I can remember leaving a bad review or at least a 1 star review. I can't in good conscience leave anything but a 1 star. When me and my 2 friends entered the coffee shop/bar, we were instantly given snide looks. Granted we didn't look like the other patrons in the shop but we were and are always courteous and jovial to all service persons. We have all been in the industry and know how it can be. When we ordered we were made to feel like we didn't order the right thing and when I did get my order it wasn't made correctly. There was no vanilla in my latte and when I asked if I ordered a vanilla latte she said yes and rolled her eyes. I commented that it didn't taste like there was any vanilla in it and she didn't offer any more. I had to then ask for more. She then with a very reluctant look took my coffee and put another drop in. It was terrible. My friends and I tried to inject some levity into the situation by trying joke around with the staff, the man was a little receptive but the woman was actively supper snooty and we were made to feel like we were not cool and definitely not welcome. When my friend asked one of the other patrons if it was always like this in here the woman asked us to leave. Obviously we left! I don't want to be any where...

Overall, the coffee gets a 5, the tea gets a 2.5, vibe gets a 4.5 and service, a 4.
Figure 8's coffee beans taste is exceptional. The only thing that would make it better is if they packaged beans in compostable or recyclable packaging and if their beans were at least fair trade (organic would be even better). Understand that they may well be that, but it's not easy to find that info. I also get that tea is not the focus, but the iced tea was very watered down.
As for the coffeehouse, the inside is small and feels a bit tight, but there is ample sitting both inside and outside. Their shady patio is awesome. I can appreciate that they are trying their best with the small space they have.
In comparison to other Austin and greater-Austin area coffee shops, the vibe is not as warm (based on 2 visits). Baristas don't necessarily seem to go out of their way to make you feel seen and heard. Where to wait after you order or where to retain cups/classes is not straightforward. However, the lovely smell of roasted beans is soothing...
