Locale East Austin — Hotel in Austin

My husband and I stayed at Locale East Austin for two nights and had to cancel our third to move to a different hotel downtown. We had the exact same experience as the only other reviewer [Ryan Gray]. We saw his review come in after already booking our trip hoping his experience was isolated, but our room was uncomfortably warm in the Austin heat. I had to reach out a second time to get action from Locale on a solution to an AC unit that clearly is not designed to keep up well with the Austin heat or designed for a space of the size. The air coming out of the unit was cool at best rather than cold as it should be. Our room was set to 65°F the entire time to try to get it down, the lowest being 72° one night, but regularly the room sat at 75°-79°. Locale finally got someone to come bring a portable AC unit to the room while we were out for the day and when we returned hours later, the room was warmer than when we left. The person who installed the portable unit didn’t hook up the exhaust to an open window, meaning the hot air produced from the unit was simply blowing back into the room. Even if the person did hook it up correctly, Locale’s windows are not built for portable units. The windows crank outward rather than up and down which is necessary to provide a seal to a portable unit. Their solution to their hot rooms are useless. While the staff on the phone was patient and kind, the service fell flat due to no actual solution. It’s possible some of their rooms have better working AC units than the one we ended up in, but I can confirm based on the decor in the other reviewer’s photo that we were indeed in a different unit than them. This is not an isolated unit issue. So long as your unit hopefully has good AC, the place is great. Clean room. Convenient full kitchen. Great shower head. And the location is fantastic. We would have loved to have nothing but amazing things to say about this place, sadly, there were two issues that really ruined the entire experience.

Like others have mentioned, the AC did not work. We thought, surely by now it would be fixed! Oh how wrong we were. This was fine during the day since we were out and about, but sleeping became difficult. This one also made it difficult to sleep. There were huge cockroaches. See the attached pics.

On the plus side, the location was great, just two blocks away from 6th where all the action is. The room itself was beautiful, modern, and the appliances and fixtures all new and high-end. If you are considering staying here, be sure to ask them if they've fixed the AC and have mitigated the cockroach issue.

Side note: Check in time is 4pm; we asked for early check in and were told we would be notified via text the morning of arrival. At around 10a, they sent a text saying for $50, we could check in...

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Locale East Austin. The property is in an incredible location—just a block from East 6th Street—which offered the perfect balance of peace and quiet while being steps away from great restaurants and cafes on E 6th St. The building is sleek and modern, with a high-tech setup that made check-in completely seamless—no front desk needed and easy access. I’d seen reviews mentioning the A/C, but mine worked perfectly even during 90-degree days while I was in town. The unit had a clean, Scandinavian-inspired design, and the beds were very comfortable.
