Golden Burger ($14): Double smash patties, special sauce, American cheese, shredded lettuce, pickles, and red onion. Absolute fire! One of the best burgers I've had in a while--juicy, flavorful, and incredibly satisfying. Would 100% come back for this when the cravings hit!
Chicken Tenders Basket ($15): Three chicken tenders with fries and two dipping sauces. Unfortunately, the tenders were dry and lacked flavor -- even the sauces couldn't save them. I tried reheating them in the air fryer the next day, which helped a little, but I still wouldn't order them again. The fries were even worse, even after air frying them, and paled in comparison to fast-food fries. BBQ Vegan Sauce: Not a fan. It had an overpowering flavor with a sharp, citrusy bite that didn't sit well on my palate. Special Sauce: A must-try! Creamy, flavorful, and pairs well with just about anything.
Thai Chicken Sandwich ($12) + Bacon ($2): Fried chicken thigh, sweet chili sauce, shredded lettuce, Thai basil, pickled Serranos, and red onion. The chicken was dry (though slightly better than the tenders) and didn't pair well with the bacon. The pickled Serranos added a nice spicy kick, but the sweet chili sauce--served on the side--tasted like a generic store-bought version and didn't really do much for the sandwich. This sandwich lacked cohesion, especially compared to the Golden Burger. I'm surprised it's popular and wouldn't recommend it.
We were at Whisler’s and discovered that the Golden Tiger truck was parked on their outdoor patio. They offered their version of a Happy Meal, available only on Wednesdays from 4–7 PM. I got the Cub Burger for $2.99 and shared it with my husband. It was ready immediately after I paid, which was impressive. The burger is simple—just cheese and pickles—but it tastes so much better than McDonald’s, especially for the price. Definitely worth checking out if you’re in the area...
Read moreEast Austin is in my opinion home to many Mount Rushmore establishments in their given food genre.
This is one of those magical establishments.
Never in my life have I visited a place more than golden tiger. I’ve eaten it well over 200 times at this point. It somehow doesn’t get old. Not even in the slightest. How on earth is that possible?
The crunchy shredded lettuce, the perfectly charred patties, the buttered and slightly toasted buns, the sauce… the sauce. I’m having NSFW thoughts just reminiscing about that sauce.
The first time I tried golden tiger it was so good, that I immediately ordered a second burger. After finishing the second one I just sat at my table alone for a bit. It was like I just witnessed the moon landing or the curing of some disease. It was a beautiful feeling.
Shocked and amazed, I made my way to the food truck to confirm whether or not Jesus Christ himself was behind these miracles. It wasn’t. It was even better. Food truck co-owner Mason Arline was behind the window, along with his crew.
I knocked on the window, introduced myself and said “your burgers are so good, that I’d literally quit my job and cook here”. Mason and I have been friends ever since.
Golden Tiger is an institution. It’s the gold standard for not just great burgers, but street food as a whole.
Didn’t think you could get aroused from a burger?...
Read moreOrder the burgers instead of the chicken place is legit amazing burger joint.
Edit: the reason for three stars. When I try a new restaurant myself and my husband always order a sampling of key menu items so we ordered chicken tenders, a burger and fries. The burger was amazing definitely joints should take note force to be reckoned with good. The chicken was so-so the crispness was there but it lacked depth of flavor in the actual meat ;the batter was steller however the more lean sections where dry. The fries where a bit hard im good with double fried however texture wise they seemed a little over fried and not as tender as I was expecting on the interior. My rating was based off of these three items one was great but the other two felt lacking (your honey mustard I literally could have drank that alone) I judged it based on all of the things I tried. I hope this provided some insight on my experience.
TlDR: everyone should go/order from here if they are in Austin. I just felt the chicken and fries where a bit lacking to my preference but everyone is different and I think people should formulate their...
