Went to see Ocean Vuong speak about his new book The Emperor of Gladness on the day of a huge storm when lots of trees were downed on the east side and hail hit in some areas of Austin. Distribution Hall was safe, they closed the garage doors briefly to dodge the rain. The event went smoothly and only a few people got caught in the rain, but we were all safe inside and luckily the rain and wind passed by quickly. Distribution Hall is a great venue that has been very versatile for hosting the best and most creative Austin events ie. Almost Real Things magazine, Food and Wine, Asian American Night Market etc.

Asian Night Market. The organiser needs firing. Absolute disaster. 2 blocks of lines despite everyone prepaying then they stopped letting people in, 4 hours before closing. Refunds being issued. Comedy show. Edit. Spoke with the organisers, they simply didn’t anticipate the demand. It was supposed to be over 3 nights and it was reduced to one. On the door, they blamed it on too many families with push chairs causing a fire safety issue if they allowed more in, no mention from anyone on a medical emergency, no EMS responding anywhere.

The event today (8/19) had vendors double parked and blocking Onion and 4th steeet completely for hours on end while they unloaded today. Literally lines of cars honking. Now it’s 8:30 pm and the Dj/ band has been registering at 110 decibels minimum for over an hour now. There are cars parked illegally all around the Plaza Saltillo train station and empty beer bottles are littering the streets around the venue. Y’all are usually considerate and have lovely pop-ups. What in the world is happening there today? This is a neighborhood. The Scoot Inn across the street has huge acts play weekly and manages to be more respectful of our neighborhood than the event being held there...
